backing up ext3 partition

Hi

I am using slitaz 3.0

Recently , it happened that my gparted gave dbus error . Must be due to file corruption . I had to reinstall .

Now I wish to backup my 5GB ext3 partition so that in future I can just overwrite /dev/sda5 with the backup.

I have used ntfsclone before which had the facility of saving only data used on partition i.e 7GB of m 20GB windows partition was filled. So I got 7GB backup image.

Is there any such utility in slitaz ?

Re: backing up ext3 partition

You should be able to use dd command or Clonezilla.

Re: backing up ext3 partition

So you see an error and decide the quickest fix would be to reinstall? This isn't Windows where most errors are irreparable. This can probably be fixed in a matter of minutes compared to the hour it will take to reinstall SliTaz and everything you want from it.

So rather provide us with the Dbus error you're getting instead.

Re: backing up ext3 partition

OK I tried clonezilla but it gave some sda error.

Firstly the interface was console based & then those errors filled up the whole screen .

My hard disk has 8KB bad sectors.

Actually I intend to copy the ext3 partition so that I can install on another computer with same specification except it has PATA hard disk instead of SATA .

If I copy all the files & paste them on PATA hard disk.

then install grub.

Will that work ?
