How to install SliTaz with no CD or USB support...?

I have Ubuntu installed (the new one). And it's very slow on my hardware, so I would like to try SliTaz.

Is there a way to install SliTaz through Ubuntu? Along the lines of wubi for Windows.

I have a bunch of USB sticks, but the BIOS (AwardBios v. 6.0) cant boot from a USB. And also, I can't afford to buy new CD-Rs right now... (just spent my last few burning SliTaz and they're all corrupted).

I boot from a plop boot manager floppy which then boots my usb key. (http://plop.at)

Also you can install slitaz from within ubuntu using a frugal or manual install (see slitaz manual) if you manually edit the grub menu configuration files.

Hi mushrooms,

Can you give us some details about your computer system:

- how many hard drives installed ?

- what is you each one: operating systems (we already know one distribution of Ubuntu), partitions, which filesystems (FAT32, NTFS, ext2/3/4...)

- free space available on each filesystem

Thanks anyways guys.

I finally got one of the 'corrupted' CD-Rs to load and I'm using SliTaz now. (They had scratches so they did not load properly until I had to keep trying). Thanks for your consideration. smile

Grats !

I would hardly suggest that you consider using rewritable CD-ROMs because Linux distribution are often updated. ;-]

Re: How to install SliTaz with no CD or USB support...?

@ Babaorum

but some older cd devices don't read RW CD-ROMs like mine. I found another way to install SliTaz without CD-ROM (by first using another PC). It works only, if you have already any Linux on your system. So I booted the other PC, copied all files from the Live-CD into a USB drive. Then I took this to my ancient machine and copied the files to HD. After that I modified the existing 'menu.lst' to boot the SliTaz bzImage. Then I enjoyed this amazing tiny distro.
