Problem with SliTaz on QEMU

Hello guys,

I am using SliTaz under QEMU, and I am trying to get it to work correctly. A kernel panic has happened before when loading slitaz in qemu. It seems to be something about a timer.

My setup for slitaz on qemu is this:

qemu-system-i386.exe -cdrom slitaz.iso -boot d -net nic -net user -m 256

So what is the problem with slitaz/qemu? Other linux distributions I have tested was Tinycore, which worked 100% fine.

My guess? The 4-in-1 Russian Doll design of SliTaz 4's default iso. The best way to test this is to remove the 4-in-1 part all together. You can download just the slitaz-core iso from http://mirror.slitaz.org/iso/stable/flavors/ and it will probably give you better results.

Weird. 'qemu -cdrom slitaz.iso -boot d -net nic -net user -m 256' works (except FAM/gamin connection) with

- slitaz 2.0 / qemu 0.9.1

- slitaz 3.0 / qemu 0.10.5

- slitaz 4.0 / qemu 0.12.5

Can you retry with -m 512 ? and -m 64 for text mode only ?

AFAIK, only ubootlin has trouble with 4-in-1 Russian Doll design ?

Last night I had also tried out the openbox version, it did the exact same thing.

I should also probably note that I am using Windows XP and the latest version of QEMU from http://lassauge.free.fr/qemu/. It appears that it wasn't really tested, so I guess I should try an older version just to be sure if it's QEMU or not.

Bellard: I did the command line mode with -m 64 and it errored out or whatever. I have also tried the -m 512 and it did the same thing.

I have an older version (1.0) and it is doing the same thing, QEMU closes on boot-up due to an error. (I was using the full version of Slitaz (4.0).

Hmm, this just seems odd.

I fixed the problem by using QEMU Manager. Everything works well now, I was able to create a virtual disk and install SliTaz.
