Usb and LiveCD problems.

First i burned the LiveCD Stable version to 2 CD's, then i tried to install it on a usb with UNetbootin. The problem i encounter is that it goes in to text and not desktop.

I also tried to format the usb to ext3 and install, then it complains on that there is no operative system on the usb..

Do i have to edit something in the text version to make it able to go into desktop?

Re: Usb and LiveCD problems.

Hi asun

SliTaz also has a tazusb tool that may work for you: http://doc.slitaz.org/en:handbook:liveusb

Re: Usb and LiveCD problems.

The fact to be in text mode and not in graphic mode is maybe not related to usage of tazusb or not.

Can you paste the result of [c]dmesg[/c], [c]cat /var/log/boot.log[/c] and [c]cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf[/c] commands in a pastebin-like web service and give us the resulting links here, please ?

[EDIT]

xorg.conf” and not “Xorg.conf”

Re: Usb and LiveCD problems.

Hi,

"I also tried to format the usb to ext3 and install, then it complains on that there is no operative system on the usb.."

I guess you did a full HD install on the USB stick, that means you dont use SliTaz with a live mode wher everthing goes in RAM but have a standard HD install on usb. That works like if you make a full HD install on a usb disk (160 Gb, etc), but to work one must add a delay so the kernel have time to find the usb media before trying to mount it as the root partition. This is done with a GRUB or Syslinux boot option: rootdelay=10

But I guess the easiest way to make a bootable usb stick is to boot from a live cd, then use the gui box from system menu to have a frontend to tazusb and so make a live install on the stick.

Re: Usb and LiveCD problems.

Paul: I'm not entering the desktop version, same problem with cd's so the usb is probably not to blame.

pankso: Possibly, but i looks identical to the usb that sent me to text mode of Slitaz, and not like a installed op. Maybe problem in formating..

Babaorum: Don't know how, possible to explain the proses?  Or maybe copy to a usb is faster? (then i still need need help for how to do that if possible..)

Thanks

Re: Usb and LiveCD problems.

Pastebin is a web service that allow you to paste some consequent pieces of source code (many different languages accepted), and get a simple URL in return that let anyone to see the code (with syntax coloring when the language permits here and if the website recognizes it).

Much better than directly copying and pasting the result of the three commands in a message on this board.

Just take care to note the URL given after pasting each piece of code.

The three commands are to be typed in a terminal console window (xterm is the default one on SliTaz).

Re: Usb and LiveCD problems.

Try to boot with some kernel parameters like "slitaz vga=791"...

Or try to make a liveusb first (not persistent) with "dd if=slitaz-cooking.iso of=/dev/sdx"...

Re: Usb and LiveCD problems.

Last cooking and Unetbootin to write in usb or SD

Boots ok but appears last lines in text mode, after something about kernel and the last line I can read, "Sending discover"...and nothing else I can read!

Black screen without any key possibility. No cursor, no answer key combinations...

I try rootdelay or vga=791 or..but no solution.

Help?

Re: Usb and LiveCD problems.

@ jtouso : this seems to be a different problem, you should rather open a new thread for it and leave this one to correct asun's own problem. ;-)

Please also give the exact error messages, these are often the ones that show where lie the potential solution(s)...
