Problems with Video DVDs

Hello,

I installed SliTaz 4.0 from the SliTaz 4.0 packages DVD on 2 Desktop-Computers and the following problem occured:

When putting the SliTaz DVD or any other Data DVD in the CD/DVD reader/writer everything works fine. When doing the same with a (bought or self produced) Video DVD to watch a video with MPlayer I get no access to the DVD and the message is (when trying to look what's on the DVD with the PCMan file manager: <i>org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.UnknownFailure</i>

I tried this on both computers with the assembled DVD-drive as well as with an external USB-DVD-drive. Always the same.

Interesting is if I boot directly from the SliTaz 4.0 DVD and do the same I have no problems at all...

Has somebody a hint for me how to resolve this problem?

And another question regarding Video-DVD's - according to your experience what is the minimum RAM you need to watch a movie from DVD with MPlayer? Could this work on a ThinClient with 512MB RAM and an external DVD-reader?

This is more a HAL issue than anything else. Best way around it is to mount the DVD manually and to browse it from the /media directory to view files. Video DVD don't need to be mounted to be played, but you must point the video player to the right place to use it.

Regarding my 2nd question - resolved. It was my mistake made a wrong setting in the video preferences. So I can tell you - and this is still nearly totally unrealistic and hard to believe for me: with SliTaz & MPlayer it is absolutley no problem to watch a DVD on a Thin Client (FS Futro S400) with 512MB RAM!!! I have seen compis with Windows and 1GB RAM having problems with this... And I made a second test - changed the 512MB module against an 128MB module. What do you think? Even that is with SliTaz possible - picture quality nearly as good and only the audio got problems after a few minutes and the tone faded away. The more I work with it the more I love SliTaz...

SliTaz is like a field, the more effort you put into it, the more your reap from your effort. The trouble most people have with SliTay is the initial effort required to get it working.
