Kernel panic

Hi.

It so happens that from time to time, but quite often, I get a kernel panic during the boot process. I have to make a hardware reset at least once to get to the login screen.

The kernel always panics after the message "Requesting events from the kernel" is displayed. It also happened once or twice after the message "Executing all initialization scripts" had been displayed.

After the boot process halts, the caps lock and the scroll lock leds on the keyboard are steadily blinking.

I do not have any idea how to proceed with the investigation of this issue, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

The only resources I found on the internet involved using some crash analysis tools which are not packaged in Slitaz or recompiling the kernel, which I'm not very keen on doing.

Hi,

The same problem on my laptop. But never happens on my (very) old pc.

I am wondering if it is related to udev rules (http://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/html/openSUSE/opensuse-reference/cha.udev.html).

Hi,

Same problem happened to me when the fs was corrupted during shutdown occurs is unmounted properly.

I had to insert sleep between the steps of /etc/init.d/rc.shutdown, especially if firefox was launched, took longer to clean the cache.

@totoetsasoeur: you are right, this was raised a year ago on the thread you mentioned. Mojo posted there that there were 2 bugs raised for it, but I think they were raised on the old bug tracker, they don't exist anymore. I'll raise it again now so that it is tracked for SliTaz 4.0, too.

Not sure if it's udev related or not, I'm not that much of an expert, I was hoping one of the SliTaz devs have a solution or hint for this. Thanks for sharing this, at least I'm not the only one experiencing this issue.

@gibor: I'm not using Firefox at all, so I think I can rule out this possible cause. But maybe unsuccessful mounts may cause this, I'll look into this possibility and post here, if this is the root cause of the panics, thanks for your hint.
