hangs after Configuring loopback... [ OK ]

Hi!  I'm really excited to give StiTaz a shot to resurrect an old Pentium PC.

I boot from the 3.0 Firefox release from CD and it hangs after "Configuring loopback... [ OK }"

I thought maybe booting from floppy might help but it does the same thing too.

any pointers?

Be happy to give more info bout the PC if it helps.  I didn't see a way to escape to the boot menu I saw  on my other PC with the option to inspect the system config in more detail.

Yes, more detail would would be appreciated. The most important factor is how much RAM the system has. It needs atleast 196MB of RAM to boot into the Firefox LiveCD flavor.

If the system has less RAM than that, then try either Loram or loram-cdrom. The Loram flavor only needs around 96MB of RAM, while the loram-cdrom flavor only needs 32MB of RAM. Actually, dropping any of them into text mode will only require about 8MB, but that's only really for more advanced users. Once installed it only needs about 32MB or so for any of the flavors. It's just the LiveCD boot that has the high RAM requirement.

Re: hangs after Configuring loopback... [ OK ]

The event following Configuring loopback... [ OK } in /etc/init.d/networking.sh is to bring up an ethernet card with ifconfig eth0 followed by wireless network card configuration.

network.sh: http://hg.slitaz.org/slitaz-boot-scripts/file/6208c17a9e42/etc/init.d/network.sh

F5 Boot Menu: http://hg.slitaz.org/wok-stable/file/aa9be64ab91c/syslinux/stuff/enhelp.txt

Try the slitaz irqpoll boot option, more boot options:

F6 Boot Menu: http://hg.slitaz.org/wok-stable/file/aa9be64ab91c/syslinux/stuff/enopts.txt

If the computer has a network card remove it and see if it boots.

Re: hangs after Configuring loopback... [ OK ]

hey guys thanks for the input!   It's an old Compaq Presario 5140 with 352MB (odd # but that's what it says when it boots!)

Ethernet card is integrated into the Motherboard so I can't pull it out hmm

is there a crafty way to disable the on-board ethernet and direct it to use a PCI ethernet card I can plop in?

something else I'm going to try is to actually put a live ethernet cord in smile

Look in bios setup menu,if you don't see anything look for jumper on motherboard to disable ethernet.

Re: hangs after Configuring loopback... [ OK ]

schweet! posting an update from SilTaz Firefox flavor as I speak thx @mojo! smile

in case it helps any other newbies, I was able to disable the "on-board LAN" in my BIOS settings (F10 on boot) and added a PCI 10/100 card to get on the net.

u guys who develop this distro rock - if there's anything I can do to help debug or provide info as to how ifconfig got stuck on this machine, let me know.
