I'm trying to boot SliTaz 3.0 on my Acer AO532h netbook, and I've run into a nasty problem. Here's the story so far:
To begin with, I created a SliTaz LiveUSB flash drive, plugged it in, and booted up. Everything looked good at first, but the GUI never initialized. All I got was a command line. I'd run into this problem before on an old Presario laptop, and I'd been able to fix it that time by connecting the computer to my router via an Ethernet cable and running tazx. Didn't work quite so smoothly this time, though. When I plugged in the Ethernet cable, SliTaz froze and I had to reboot. When the system started up again, the boot process stalled at "setting default mixer volumes," or something like that. So I rebooted and used the sound=no and sound=noconf options. This time it stalled at "configuring loopback." So it looks like wired internet access is a no-go.
Now, my predicament is this: I need to connect to the internet to run tazx and download the Intel drivers for my netbook's GMA 3150. I presume this would allow the GUI to start up. However, it appears that the only way I can access the internet is via WiFi, and I don't know how to connect to my network without using the GUI. Hence the catch-22.
I attempted briefly to establish a WiFi connection from the command prompt, to no avail (my network uses WPA, which I understand complicates things considerably). If I was able to get wireless internet working, however, that might be the end of the problem. Does anyone know how to configure a wireless internet connection from the command line?
The other thing I'd like to know is if there is any way to create a SliTaz LiveUSB or LiveCD with the manufacturer-specific video drivers already loaded. It seems to me that this would be a valuable thing to have, not just for this particular case but for SliTaz usage in general. Is it possible to create such a modified SliTaz ISO?

perhaps use the new cooking iso. or maybe the image file you have is corrupt. try a new iso cant hurt when it's only a 30 meg download

The new cooking version might work... except that one of the reasons I'm trying to boot to SliTaz is to run the benchmarks built into the System Tools -> System Information menu. I've already run these benchmarks on a bunch of other machines, and switching to a new version of the OS might introduce statistical errors. The whole reason I'm using SliTaz for benchmarking in the first place is that it should allow me to run the same benchmarks in the same environment on any computer. I suppose I could try the cooking version, and, if that works, go back and re-benchmark all the other computers.
Why am I benchmarking all these computers, you ask? Why not? 
Oh, and I don't think a corrupt image is the culprit... when I tried using a USB CD-ROM drive to boot from a SliTaz CD that works elsewhere, I ran into the same problem. I've also reformatted and rewritten the LiveUSB disk several times - same problem.

well i had the same situation but i ran root and started tazx in root to get my ati card to run, then switched to tux and repeated the same command tazx in tux users from the shell which fixed that problem . also the cpu blowfish benchmarks and extras are all the same in ever distro unless you use arch or say somethin like debian where you can use different cpu feq's or other things. so ? i dont understand why you would use such simple benchmarks to test different systems. if thats your game use phoronix's test suit which can tes cpu,disk,gpu,and ram

Alas, it appears that all Blowfish benchmarks are not created equal... the same goes for the other CPU tests. I tried installing the "System Profiler and Benchmark" application on my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop to see if I could get around this booting issue. Unfortunately, the benchmark results differed wildly from what I got in SliTaz on the same computer. Hence my eagerness to keep all extraneous variables locked down.
As to why I'm using simple CPU benchmarks... All I want to test is single threaded CPU performance. Nothing fancy. Furthermore, the benchmark suite needs be able to run anywhere. Since SliTaz is the only modern OS capable of running on my oldest systems, I figured this distro would be the way to go.

With a persistant home folder(grub-> home=/dev/sdx) you can save a benchmark report from console without running Xorg.
Login tux
hardinfo -f html > benchmark.htm
Report location: /tux/benchmark.htm
Mount flash drive in OS that runs X and has browser.
Open report with browser.
