urgent skype help please

I don't notice my webcam working. I absolutely need it to work. It is an internal camera and I don't know what I need to do and am willing to do whatever is asked so I can run the webcam. Tell me what to do, please.

From what you are saying it appears the web cam is not detected. I have had some issues with my Logitech camera and if you do a search on this forum you might find some hints on what needs to be done.

One quick option is to

1. start terminal

2. su to root

3. run 'tazhw box' where you can get the system to install the webcam. I suggest you check the boxes to enable downloading of optional packages as well.

It did not work in my case but hopefully it will work for you.

It appears the the correct driver is not loaded. Run lspci command to list the devices on your system to work out which driver should be loaded. Post the output - perhaps someone else in the forum may have had the same webcam and might know the solution.

I cannot see your webcam listed here. Are your sure it is connected internally and not via USB? If it is USB, do a lsusb command.

As your screen shot shows it is USB connected.

A Google search tells me that the driver needed is the Linux uvc driver. If you run lsmod command it will tell you whether the uvcvideo driver is loaded. Perhaps it is best if you post the output of lsmod.

I figured USB meant it had to be plugged in via USB. It does not.

This shows that uvcvideo is not loaded.

Install the kernel module via

# tazpkg -gi v4l-dvb-development_2.6.37

(pretending you are using SliTaz 4.0 ?!)

load the driver via

# modprobe uvcvideo

Skype should detect your cam then.

on bootup, the driver should be loaded automatically; if not, add it to /etc/rcS.conf in the module section.
