PCmanFM, drag & drop fails

Hello SliTaz people,

did I understand PCmanFM somehow wrong?. I mean, it seems to

mount/unmount drives normally, files shows as expected and

it calls for applications to open them correctly. But....

it doesn't allow for drag & drop operations. After trying to

find any reason for that from documentations I finally installed

Thunar for testing. It performed correcly in any way I have been

trying this far. (I also tested PCmanFM in Ubuntu machine with

good results.)

  Is it possible that there is some incompatibility

issue in this farely old computer with SliTaz-3.0 (permanent HD

install) that doesn't apply to Thunar. (Oh, what computer?.. It was

sold here in Finnland under brand name "Fintek" maybe more than

ten yers ago, in motherboard it says SY-5EAS as far as I can

read it. BIOS says AWARD PCI/PNP 586.)

  To be precise, there is some uncertainties in USB flash

connectivity, these are recognized but may "drop out" after

awhile. But there seems to be no difference between PCmanFM and

Thunar in this respect so I guess this is another problem.

What exactly are you trying to copy? pcmanfm has a few issues that I'm awake of. For example it won't allow you to copy a file to a location with a directory of the same name. It also cannot copy symlinked files and it won't copy over a directory with files in it (even IF the files in the two directories are different). That's just to name the few I noticed off the top of my head.

Just for testing, I tried to copy to empty directory, it didn't work either.

In general, I have been trying to copy anything and anyway, PCmanFM have refused this far.

I understood this is mostly operating file manager so it was embarrasing to fail in this trivial thing.

There is another old computer I planned to install SliTaz to. Maybe I should consider doing that

next and see what happens.

Could also have been a permission issue, but then Thunar would have been able to do it either. I don't know, but it sounds like a bad (or badly setup) copy of pcmanfm to me. The latter can have many reasons why it's happens

Just to check, tried to remove & reinstall PCmanFM. No help....

Hmmm..... now I realized that the tested PCmanFM in Ubuntu machine

was v.0.9.7  In its homepage it was said to be totally rewritten. One of my

first notises was that handy CNTR+D/CNTR+B didn't response any more.

But back to SliTaz.... the version seens to be v.0.5.2

Ah, you're using the PCManFM alpha - yeah, it's been rewritten completely and comes with many gnome-ish integration and should even come a trashcan function. You must be using a latest copy of Ubuntu too, considering that this only got added to there this year (with the alpha being released end last year).
