Install Apacahe OpenOffice 3.4

I am setting up Slitaz on a dual boot system for a friend. He is used to OpenOffice.

I have install it in Windows XP/7 and Ubuntu in the past, but have had no success with Slitaz. Most of the posts seem to be quite old.

What is required to install it on Slitaz (Cooking) ?

OpenOffice is now owned by Oracle. Apache is the web server software. Most people would tell you to get LibreOffice now because of how badly Oracle has messed up OpenOffice. LibreOffice is the same as OpenOffice, only it has all the patches that Oracle rejected, meaning it has better document support than OpenOffice at the moment.

I think you will find that Star Office older versions were released as

free versions re-badged as OpenOffice. Oracle did acquire OpenOffice,

but I understand has since donated the code to the Apache Foundation. We

now have as a result Apache OpenOffice (incubating).

Apache is now actively developing OpenOffice further. LibreOffice does

have the same roots, but as with Linux the flavours can vary.

Apache OpenOffice 3.4.1 does some tasks better than LlibreOffice and

Microsoft Excel. That is why I would like to be able use and make Slitaz

a viable alternative to Windows XP/7 and Ubuntu variants.

I really can't keep up with all these changing of hands of software. It's almost as bad as Flash Player.

You do know that 3.4.1 came out less than 10 days ago, right? I'll call foul about claiming it's in Ubuntu's official repository - launchpad maybe but not officially.

What you can try is the get-OpenOffice3 package. It should be version independent and download the latest version of OpenOffice it can find...

Forget the argy bargy. I had already tried the on line info stuff including get-OpenOffice3.

Have previously managed to put get-OpenOffice3 in the package list. Selecting, marking for installation and installing results in "get-OpenOffice3 (1.1) is installed. No sign of OpenOffice3.

Is there another step to get usable OpenOffice3 in the applications menu or an icon on the desktop?

Run get-OpenOffice3 from Sakura as root.

Tried before and now tried again.

this is the result

root@slitaz:/# get-OpenOffice3

Command line: basename

Strip directory path and .SUFFIX from FILE

Can't find VERSION. Abort.
