I've got an old HP pavillion zf1180 laptop and trying to run LiveCd and install. I got the computer for free, but the screen was smashed up, so I removed it. I've got the laptop plugged into a separate monitor.
I pop in the CD, select an option from the boot list, then I see a mouse cursor and a list for selecting a keyboard layout. After I select the keyboard layout, the screen goes blank. I can can hear the CD spinning now and then and indicator lights on the computer still blink, but I can't get a display.
There are no BIOS options to force an external monitor.
In Windows, I could switch to the monitor by pressing Fnc+F5, however I had to install video drivers in order to use the s-video output (which I eventually want to use).
Any direction for troubleshooting this?

This may be the double xorg boot bug. At the LiveCD's menu, select the Command line option and type core kmap=us lang=en_US and press enter to see if it boots all the way now.
