Sane-Server - Network-Scanner

Hi Guys, me again :-)

I managed to install cups and can use the MFP from HP, which is connected via usb to my slitaz machine, over my network as network printer.

How is it possible to start a sane server, so that i can use xsane for example on my client?

If you have connected your MFP via USB then it is not a network printer - can you please clarify this?

To use a network scanner you would need the network enabled version of hplip - check out http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/configure-network-scanner

I have a Laserjet Color Pro 100 MFP M175a connected via usb to a slitaz machine. It's commandline only. No gui, functions as a server. I installed cups and the hplip from the repo. After that, i tried to install an additional an recommended driver via hplip-plugin. But it does not start to download (some errors, but this is another story).

Okay, so far i managed to access the cups web interface through one of my clients. Configuration done, i got cups on my slitaz machine to broadcast to my lan. So i can install a network printer on my linux mint client. Printing just works fine.

And now i like the slitaz-server to act as scanner-server, so i can just use xsane on my linux mint machine. Same as it works for the printer...

I saw the network enabled version of hplip, but it is no actual one, and i need at least 3.12.2 for my printer i think.

OK this makes sense now! I also noticed that you have made a new post on how to run saned.

My experience with getting sane working with a network attached HP MFP (Photosmart 2700) is that the printer URI had to be defined in 'hp:/xxxxxxxx?ip=a.b.c.d' format. While the printing worked OK with other URI formats sane failed to recognize the printer until it was defined as mentioned.

You may want to try that first. Hope this helps.

Hi,

yeah, i made a new post, because i didn't find saned in the /etc/init.d/

folder. And i don't understand, why every other daemon i start from/etc/init.d/ gives me an output after, but saned which is located in /usr/sbin/ don't. My guess is, it isn't a daemon, just a binary?

First of all, i tried to configure hplip with hp-setup. The printer was found, but the plugin doesn't start do download. Okay, i downloaded it manuelly and tried hp-plugin after that with specifing a folder for the .run file. Didn't work. And just make the file executable and start it with ./xxxxx.run also didn't work.

After that, i tried something like simple-scan hp:/net/xxxxxxxxxxxxx?ip=ip_of_my_server

at the command line of linux mint, but it gave me an error too. And where exactly should i define the URI permanently? Is there a config file somewhere?

Questions, Questions, Questions...

I will post all error outputs later on, now i'am at work.

Maybe this helps a little bit more :-)

@linux_noob, you may want to check that in cups config your printer definition also has the 'hp:/net/xxxx?ip=a.b.c.d' format. I have attached a screen shot of my cups definition. This may not be the fix for your problem but worth trying it out. In my case, I am not using saned but as mentioned earlier, without this URI format my sane client could not detect the scanner.
