je, je... sorry if I do "unnecessary" questions...

let me explain this "missunderstanding":

- I have been using puppy linux and ubuntu. So I had a little experience with linux (I think they are very easy to use). So first I installed slitaz on hd by myself (I guess I tried 3 times), I just read some information... Unfortunately there were some issues (pausing..., kernel panic..., no panels, no grub, flash plugin issues, etc.). So I decided to ask for help (I decided to do only the suggestions you can tell me, because this time I don't want to do any mistake...). That's why I do a new question when some commands doesn't show an expected message or just doesn't work... I mean if some command doesn't work then I don't execute the next commands, then I "report" what happened, and if you tell me to execute the next commands I will do it.

- the first time you told me: "...maybe you have some broken files...", "... take a look ...lxde unstable..". That's why I did a new installation (I wanted to fix the "broken files") before to "edit lxde panel". unfortunately the new installation had the same problems (so I suppossed I didn't fix the broken files)

- next you said edit lxpanel (Just delete this chunk from all config files). If your user is tux, look in these files:

/home/tux/.config/lxpanel/default/panels/panel

/home/tux/.config/lxpanel/slitaz/panels/panel

but those directories were empty

- later you said: "copy those directories...", "Kill broken LXPanel with command: killall lxpanel", then "Launch new LXPanel with different profiles (one at a time)", I copied those directories sucessfully, but the message I got was "no process killed" (I suppossed the command didn't kill broken lxpanel...), thats why I didn't do the next part (launch lxpanel..., delete battery applet...). that's why I did another question before to do next steps (sorry)

anyway now I did the next steps (as you told me profile original already have not batt applet). then I executed:

$ lxpanel -p original

It works, I can see the bottom panel, but it's different to the default panels and if I close the terminal, then the panel dissappears again

Next I modified lxpanel as you told me (Just delete this chunk from all config files...). Fortunately this time there are no problems. The battery applet is gone but I have the panels (top and bottom). This method seem to work!

I think this post is solved! Now I will try to install some useful packages.

Oh, execuse me! I save my time and wrote:

Kill broken LXPanel with command: killall lxpanel

But, I had to write the following:

Before starting new lxpanel make sure that lxpanel is not running at the moment.

You should kill it if it running. How to check if it running? You can execute command: pidof lxpanel

If you see a number in answer to previous command, then lxpanel running. If you see no answer then lxpanel is not running.

How to kill lxpanel if it running? Execute command: killall lxpanel

If you run lxpanel as usual (tux) user, then tux user can kill lxpanel and root user can kill it; if root user run lxpanel then only root user can kill lxpanel.

But there is not a big error if you try to kill application that not running. You only will get message:

[c]killall: lxpanel: no process killed[/c]

This is not fatal error.

Instead of this all (pidof, killall etc.) you can execute only last one command (killall lxpanel). Don't afraid if you get message "no process killed".

Ok, ok. I know that there is no time to write that all. But… Really… Next time I'll try to write more specific posts.

Any way, congratulations! You solved this problem. It's very specific problem. By the way, what is your processor (CPU)?

Your processor breaks lxpanel. To show info about CPU execute hardinfo (command [c]hardinfo[/c] in the terminal or SliTaz menu→System Tools→System Information) and click Devices→Processor in the left pane, and read info at the top right pane.

I don't know, if you'll see info or error message, but you can additionally run next command in terminal: [c]cat /proc/cpuinfo[/c]

yeah. I think the problem about panel is solved. I mean I have succesfully installed slitaz 4.0 on dell latitude c600

I guess It was a specific problem.

according to Applications > System Tools > System Information > Devices > Processor:

- name: pentium III (coppermine)

- family, model, stepping: 6, 8, 6 (pentium III/pentium III Xeon/Celeron)

- vendor: intel
