compiling and converting

I want to learn how to compile packages from source (compressed tarballs) (for example: i want to get the newest wine 1.4.1), and converting a package to tazpkg (for example: i want to install utorrent.deb)

I tried some things already, but it doesnt seem to go right.

can anyone please show me step by step how to get the newest wine (1.4.1) using compiling from source, and

utorrent using tazpk convert.

thanks in advance.

ps. my laptop shut down last time while compiling. Is that normal?

Re: compiling and converting

Hi jjk,

Your starting point is Cookbook.

ps. my laptop shut down last time while compiling. Is that normal?

Most likely your CPU is overheating. Check CPU cooling system, exhaust fan, and thermal paste on your CPU.

Re: compiling and converting

its probably not my CPU overheated since i could just boot it up directly after shutting down, its mostlikely some kind of crash.

but lets first try compiling again smile

Re: compiling and converting

ok i read the cook manual, but how do i build a tar.bz2 or tar.gz and install it?

Is that easy or do i need some knowledge for that.

and is the cooking method easier than this method:

>tar xjf file.tar.bz2

>./configure

>make

>make install

I tried it that way before posting here.

in the meantime i got both programs working, not using cookutils method... But using ./configure, make, make install

can anyone teach me how to use cookutils and tazwok. So i can install from source the proper way next time. And i want to use tazwok to make a tazpkg from the newest wine, and upload it to the mirror maybe.

any help is much appreciated.
