Question (Not support) about running in RAM

I noticed that after installing StliTaz 4.0 to a USB the OS seems to run significantly slower. Is Slitaz no longer running in RAM, or am I seeing a change just because it has to write files to the USB? Or is something else happening?

I'm curious especially because this doesn't seem to be the case with Puppy Linux, and I'm wondering what the difference is the result of. The Puppy install is on a slower USB stick, too.

Slitaz must constantly read/write the flash drive which is much slower than a live/frugal install where the entire filesystem is extracted to RAM on boot. Persistance on a live/frugal install /home is mounted to the drive which doesn't slow down performance since read/writes to /home are small.

Full install to USB flash drive is slowest performance and prone to filesystem corruption.
