Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

Yo! guys!, I have an Athlon X2 5200 + 2GB Ram + GeForce 8600GT, I wonder if it has any proprietary driver with satisfactory performance, as well as Ubuntu, Fedora ... I tried to install it by pkgmanager and error, he says he installs everything, but at the time of the rise of the X error and it says that the display can not be shown. The error in XORG.config and I can not access via command! Another thing, Running LiveCD internet is very fast, but when I install the HD is sooo slow, I'm using wifi in win7 is ok, ok in ubuntu tbm at Mint TBM. why is that? reaches a point of not even able to install a program such as Adobe FLASH, it simply says that the file "get-flash" does not exist in the repository!! I appreciate everyone's attention, and thank you for your cooperation smile

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

sorry Ernia that it took so long - Kernel 3.2.39 works perfect!!! - even the 5% bug does not happen - rolling feels much quicker now.

@pascal is it possible to update to 3.2.39 ?

and how do we continue with the Kernel-config?

ernia - you set all  pata stuff =y, but I prefer only the necessary modules =y and evrything else =m, because this is definitly quicker on low ram machines - should I make a suggestion?

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

@kultex

if i'm not getting it wrong if you don't enable a pata as y you can't boot if you need it.

bellard can tell if i'm wrong or not

i could test if the generic pata support works, but the kernel with all driver enabled is large as the current kernel, if i'm not wrong, maybe the generic pata would be slimmer?

i can build it if you want

i enclose the config i used to build the kernel

i have no time now, i'll work again at pc this evening

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

@ernia

I attach you the scsi-sata-ide section from ctkarch - this is tested on all my devices and it works perfect. As far as I can understand, it has also scsi und pcmcia support, what we dont have until now in SliTaz.

I cannot test scsi, because I do not have any more scsi-harddisks, but I should have a pcmcia-cdrom

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

@ernia

I own you some answers

1) why nvidia is not working with vesa - part from dmesg:

ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [AIGP] enabled at IRQ 21

nouveau 0000:00:12.0: PCI INT A -> Link[AIGP] -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 21

nouveau 0000:00:12.0: setting latency timer to 64

[drm] nouveau 0000:00:12.0: Detected an NV40 generation card (0x067000a1)

nouveau takes an irq - so the vesa-commit "pci_device_has_kernel_driver - igoring device with a bound kernel" is working here

2) I am really happy we stay with spacefm and udevil - and I think, there should be no problem with samba, ftp and nfs shares

https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/i686/udevil/

- until now I used all the  time midnight commander - never pcmanfm, but now I will use spacefm

3) is your offer still valid, to build a kernel? - I am working on a config

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

@pascal

please some urgent changes in rolling:

1) the 5% soundcard bug - a sleep 1 before soundcard stuff in /etc/init.d/system.sh eliminates the bug - system.sh is attached

2) in tazlito - remove /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and 70-persistent-cd.rules before tazlito starts to make the iso

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

and I think I have one more tazlito issue

in the new iso, done with tazlito, I get no root window of spacefm

slim log tells: "spacefm-auth: error: missing file" after I try to open the root window

/tmp/spacefm.tmp  is emty - there is missing a file - see attachment

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

@kultex

1)that's why a say that maybe we should put linux video modules in a separate package

2)i still prefer pcmanfm :-)

3)yes, it's still valid

about the missing file in /tmp/spacefm.tmp  it's created and deleted on the fly by spacefm, it happened to me some time ago but it stopped by itself and i did not investigate it anymore

does this problem survive a reboot?

i have less time than usual lately, hope to spend this night working at linux

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

Hi

I have great difficulties with the new version from today but it is not the subject of my actual message. I constate as Slitaz actually starts with a extremly bad resolution that it is about not possible to read something in the konsole Xterm or Sakura and divers other windows or fields, especially in the editor from SliTaz forum in Tazweb, where it is especially small and uggly, but that the text in tazweb is very good to read after publication as well as the text that you write in leafpad! I find it is nonsens to optimise texts to make them beautiful for people having no problem with the resolution and to penalize the people a lot more having yet the problem of the bad resolution!!!

It would be very helpfull to test each time new release are published if they are also correctly readable under the worest possible resolution.

It is a question of pure inconsidarateness to the people having not the chance to operate under sufficient resolution! I am supprising, searching my words in Englisch in http://translate.google.com , to see, that the text in the little window is of highst quality under that bad resolution compared with the text in the equivalent little window of the SliTaz forum :-x Probably it would be important to check this matter also in the Slitaz forum! Why is the text in Google at 640 x 480 a lot more better than in the Slitaz forum at 640 x 480 at writting time (after publication, the text in the SliTaz forum is also good)? It would be acceptable to work at that resolution in the Google text fields but absolutely execrable in the rest what SliTaz offers (konsole, sakura, forum and divers other windows and fields!). Each from us can be confrontate with the choice to abandon SliTaz not beeing able to get enough text resolution and quality or to persist if the environment is acceptable enough!

Kind rgds.

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

Hi oui,

too many too many words…

Reading your post I can't understand what is "extremly bad resolution". Is it too high (like 1600×900) or too low (like 320×240) while you want, say 800×600?

I want to say you that you can broke your eyes looking screen at bad resolution. Seriously. Seems the problem is in your video card and it's drivers. It is common problem, and you're not first and not alone. Read forum pages and you'll find similar problems. Sometimes, without answers…

I want to give you some hints how to live with 640×480 resolution.

At first, contemporary interfaces and web pages are not designed to such a low resolution, minimum is 800×600 or above. So, you need to Alt + drag windows with left mouse key pressed to observe another part of window.

Second, in TazWeb you can press right-click page context menu and select "Zoom In" and "Zoom Out" to adjust your font size.

tazweb-zoom-out.png

Third, you can set font to your whole system using LXAppearance.

lxappearance-default-font.png

Fourth, in Midori browser → Preferences you can set desirable font for your pages.

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

maybe just somebody can remove the rolling button from slitaz.org

its rolling and not cooking - I think the difference was explained quite often and I think one thing after the other:

1) Get the kernel ok - just now it does not boot with some older devices

2) see what xorg packages we need

3) finetunig of programs

we are still on 1) and oui, I think your problems are related to your special minimal edition! I think at the moment we should deal in rolling just with the iso

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

Hi Aleksej,

I do my best to explain, what the average user having some 100 % classic hardware from Intel has for deception... If I would speak about the Apple from my son it would be perversion... And the fact, that old users speaking more French than English (I can better read Russian but I have forgotten a lot since the years I did learn it!) is a natural fact as this distribution was initially mainly French spoken...

Hi Kultex,

Dramatic seems for me, that the developper's edition is now a testing edition! I did 10 years use Debian SID as MY distribution. It was really rare that it was not ok for average users! A lot of derivative distributions based on SID do the same! I thing SID in Debian = cooking in SliTaz. Experimental in Debian is perhaps rolling or somewhat else.

Where is the SliTaz-Testing edition? I did make yesterday a new time a big download of 3 Gbyte of the "packages ISO" only to get the initrd !!! and, of course, it did not work!!!

(why did I do it? because in the mirror the date of the ISO did change and I did esperate a better environment!)

I don't need some packages at all if the initrd can't start correctly!!! initrd = 40 MB, my download 3000 MB only to see if the included initrd works correctly!!!

bring a cooking ISO with about 30 .. 40 MB again

and not only one time per year (it is risible if the rolling changes 3 times since begin of year!)

and you probably can forget your problem with impatient users!

I don't use only the special minimal edition (than you very much for it)! I use parallel

ALL

available editions. But hidden or not available editions,

I can not use them...

MORE: the problem I did expose has nothing to do with stable, cooking or rolling!

It has with consideration against poor user having a bad hardware, for example the 100 % more official INTEL hardware from the PC world, and having only the "bad resolution of 640 x 480" to her disposition! Why test nobody this point before to erase from the web existent best ISO's as it is completely clear, that some users, a lot of users, will be confronted with the terrible choice "abandonate / continue with the bad resolution" some times until the developers catch the problem and amend it!

we continiously get message errors, that somewhat is wrong with the i915 module :-)

kind regards

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

It has nothing to do with mount, but the inclusion of hal with the new pcmanfm. Remove hal and pcmanfm then install udevil and spacefm. Do the required replacements of pcmanfm with spacefm and everything should work like it expected.

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

you posted in the wrong topic, please start another topic.

/bin/mount is provided only from busybox in 4.0:

http://pkgs.slitaz.org/search.sh?file=/mount&version=s

in cooking it's provided from util-linux-mount too

http://pkgs.slitaz.org/search.sh?file=/mount

you could try to manually donwload the cooking package from the above link and install it in 4.0, but i don't know if it works

if it doesn't you could cook util-linux and util-linux-mount using these receipt

http://pkgs.slitaz.org/search.sh?receipt=util-linux&version=cooking

http://pkgs.slitaz.org/search.sh?receipt=util-linux-mount&version=cooking

look here http://doc.slitaz.org/en:cookbook:start for how to do it

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

hi guys,

since several weeks i'll try the slitaz-rolling.iso as frugal and really enjoy the speed of it.

but how can i activate flash-plugin in midori 0.4.9?

i tried to install like i did in slitaz-4.0 (midori-0.4.8) but without success.

the problem is, that i can't get shown the facebook site correctly with the midori-0.4.8 in slitaz/4.0. with the rolling slitaz version and midori-0.4.9 it work's fine.

thank's in advance for your assistance.

kind regards from kos island

Re: Talks about cooking status/bugs/suggestions/etc

Hi, aniguenni!

It seems like facebook problem not in Adobe Flash plugin.

Try to open fb site in TazWeb. It uses the same Webkit engine to show pages, but seems TazWeb is more fb friendly.

Try to play with User Agent settings in Midori, it works for me! And every time I get different versions of fb site. And, if its not critical for you, you can use mobile version: m.facebook.com.

What about Flash plugin? Maybe it better to use ol' good package from Trixar_za?

PS. Maybe, its time to upgrade Midori to the latest 0.5.0 version?
