Anybody please help me to install proprietarty driver on SliTaz for my ATI Radeon 9600 Pro.
Sory for my bad English. I very like SliTaz distro. And I like that 3.0 version SliTaz using X.org 1.5.2.
Please tell me how to convert *.run driver in tazpkg. Please!

Hello neofidodido, I did what you said. Hardware detection and drivers. Then I pushed "ATI Radeon" button. After installing packages I reboot. And ... bad luck - my X server fall down.
Then, I have tried another trick:
1. I installed Ubuntu 8.10
2. In Ubuntu I installed ATI Drivers (Proprietary drivers allways installed succesfully in Ubuntu 8.10)
3. Then I copy all *.deb packages that drivers put in cache when Installing.
4. I copy xorg.conf in my special forlder)))
5. Then, I installed SliTaz again.
6. I convert all *.deb packages from step #3 (that ATI driver put in system cache) to *.tazpkg.
7. I installed all this new *.tazpkg files.
8. I replace SliTaz's default xorg.conf with xorg.conf that I get from Unutu (when driver already was installed).
9. I reboot my computer and.... Arrrrr! Xorg falls again.
People, help! I don't know what else I must to do.

ATI Catalyst Version 9.3 Legacy was the last driver to support Radeon 9600
Slitaz-3.0=> catalyst-9-11_2.6.30.6.tazpkg is Version 9.11 will not work.

Catalyst 9.3 will not run on slitaz-3.0 because it uses kernel 2.6.30

ATI/AMD dropped Catalyst support for these cards in Catalyst 9-4. These cards are supported with the legacy ATI 9-3 Catalyst release, but you MUST use a kernel 2.6.28 (or earlier) and Xserver 1.5 (or earlier).

MOJO, that's very sad((. I didn't know about kernel. I know that Ubuntu 8.10 used X.org 1.5.2 like SliTaz do. You should know that *.run driver install incorrectly in Ubuntu 8.10 and SliTaz too. But proprietary driver in *.deb packages install in Ubuntu 8.10 very well. What kernel used Ubuntu 8.10? I don't know.
Second question was born - Is it difficult to downgrade kernel? How can I do that. Please give me some docs or advice.

I believe Ubuntu 8.10 used 2.6.27 so it could use those Catalyst drivers. It's not a good idea to try downgrading the kernel because you'll lose compatibility with kernel specific packages (including all the linux modules) and you'll still need to compile both the old Linux kernel and the Catalyst drivers.

Hello, Trixar_za. I'm in trap. So what choice I have?
1. Compile kernel 2.6.28.x and old linux modules. Then install ATI drivers.
2. Forget about Slitaz (noway).
3. Buy Nvidia (impossible right now).
Did I wrote all right?

You could try Wary Puppy Linux, because it's compiled with an old Linux kernel for this very reason - amongst others. As for my site, I lost the old domain, but I did register a new .net domain in it's place. You can find it again by clicking on my username here.

Trixar, You are right and you're wrong. You were right about Ubuntu 8.10 - kernel version is 2.6.27.x
And you were wrong about Wary Puppy Linux. Yesterday I installed Wary Puppy 5.1.4.1. It use kernel 2.6.32.x
Hmm, maybe I get some answers in SliTaz Stratchbook.

Seems like I succesfully copied elder kernel and modules for it from SliTaz 2.0. Everything working. So, how can I compile Catalyst 9.3 driver for my ATI? Anybody?

The fglrx ati proprietary driver fails on all kinds of Linux systems and architectures. Somewhere not hard to find is a git with a more recent open-source ati driver that compiles very easily in a system with the gcc compiler, autoconf, etc., and it works extremely well, providing acceleration and 3dgfx where the fglrx does not, and handling the most recent amd nee radeon chipsets, including the E-450 in various Asus boards and its eee box pc.
