Over the weekend I installed my first Slitaz machine.
Had some hardware problems but eventually I was able to rescue the box.
It's a dual core with 1Gig of RAM and 200GB harddisk. Way over the top for Slitaz but a leftover which stood unused at my home for three years or so.
Now I'm full speed working with the software and I must say that it has been great fun!
Boot time 9s(!), basic stuff like ntp, ssh and Perl works out of the box with no issues whatsoever.
It has been long ago that I was so satisfied with a linux distro. Good work guys!

I'll second that.
Just installed SliTaz 4.0 to one of my older laptops, an Advent 9112, 1.5gb ram 64gb SSD DVD-RW 12.1" wtft. Everything worked straight away.
Had previously installed it to a usb ide hdd without bother as well.
Looks like a great distro.
I have used several distros and fedup with some or the other issues; Recently i have installed Slitaz 4.0 in my IBM thinkpad with 30Gb 256 working like a charm..
Congratulations Slitaz team, you have done a great job.
If this is ported to Raspberry pi i think it works thundering speed.

Your "old" laptop's spes can still do away with the latest Ubuntu version, with all the bells and whistles.
I find the real value of SliTaz is demonstrated fully in its ability to revive old hardware, particularly those types wherein Windows XP or even the latest Lubuntu runs sluggish, or there's undoubtedly some hint of sluggishness felt here and there.
consider my old, generic China-made laptop:
Intel Pentium M 1300Mhz
1gb ddr1 RAM
64mb SiS graphics
30 Gb Fujitsu IDE hdd, 5400rpm

shintsan88, I agree with you - do you run it installed or frugal? - the real speed SliTaz demonstrates in frugal mode on those Oldies!

its installed to the hdd, 10gb ext4 partition, dual-booting with Windows XP. : )
even with this setup its still blazing fast, booting under 25 secs, shutdown is instant, and everything is snappy (Skype, Abiword, Gnumeric, etc, heck, even LibreOffice!), something I havent seen or felt in Windows XP in this machine. I just kept the XP coz I dont wanna install Wine and ruin all that SliTaz fun hehehe

shintsan88, when you have time try it - use tazusb to create the rootfs.gz, put it on the hard disk and start it with grub
note: you have to have a seperate partition for /home/ and the compressed iso with lzma in your case should not be more than 200 MB, less is much better.
And I tell you, you never want to work with another system.....

for this I'll perform on an even more older machine. I still have a working Pentium 3 box lying somewhere gathering dust. Three years ago all I know was Puppy Linux and AntiX - I had a hard time appreciating both desktop because I find them soo unattractive
Slitaz is simply perfect and downright beautiful!
I still consider myself a novice when it comes to Linux. But I can see clearly its great value and potential. In third-world countries such as my homeland, the Philippines, Slitaz can bring back to life old but still good running computers for the educational benefit of many impoverished communities, specially in the island provinces. truth be told, there are still many children in the far-flung reaches of the world who havent got the foggiest idea what the internet is. And all the while we thought the world is getting smaller each day!
all I can say is, kudos to all the collaborative minds behind this wonderful operating system!
