Slitaz LiveCD For the PS3 (Is It Possible?)

If possible it would be a very big promo to create a Slitaz LiveCd that can run on a ps3 providing the following.

Firefox web browser

java 6 support

adobe flash player support

audio video media support

image viewing and editing

Now these days alot of low income USA residents can't afford decent computers, yet they already own a playstation 3 that was originally design to run linux operating systems. These console are like old computers with powerful gpus and 400+ ram memory.

I can see alot of potential for slitaz if it was design to run on a ps3, even if you don't live in the USA. Just offering a different browser than the default ps3 version and the abilty to run linux os primarily on ram while storing all other packages on the "otheros" formated PS3 harddrive. Makes the PS3 System a very viable canidate for slitaz operating system.

Now if I had the knowledge and know how to create my own slitaz build to do this I would have, but I'm afraid my basic A+ certification does not give me the necessary tools to pull this off, which is the sole reason why i posted this Idea here for those that understand linux builds to create a livecd for a ps3. ^^

P.S. Food for thought... Regarding PS3 Hardware Drivers for linux they exist already thanks to Yellow Dog Linux wink

Actually,   I think that Slitaz doesn't run on the PS3's CPU architecture

Re: Slitaz LiveCD For the PS3 (Is It Possible?)

Isn't it possible still to rewrite slitaz to run on the ps3 cpu arch. , considering yellow dog linux was made to run on the ps3 cpu arch... Basically saying isnt linux still linux... just different distro builds?

Re: Slitaz LiveCD For the PS3 (Is It Possible?)

The team of developers is having a hard time just to mantain a single architecture (32 bits). I doubt they would be able to find manpower or will enough to mantain any other kind of processor.

Of course it would be possible to recompile the whole Slitaz to match PS3's processor, but then what? Mantaining a parallel architecture means mantaining twice as much packages, solving twice as much bug reports. Plus, the lack of userbase would surely bring a lack of bug reports and thus, a lack of quality in this branch.

It's a nice idea, but it is impractical. Projects with lots of megabucks, like Debian or NetBSD, can afford to mantain 10+ architectures without loosing quality. Does Slitaz have a hiden cave full of gold pieces and jewels? No? Damn it! Unless you want to find someone to port Slitaz (or port it yourself), PS3 users are out of luck.

Anyway, the Scratchbook contains instructions to build Slitaz from the blue. Any particular iron-will user could take it, set a PS3 capable compiler in his PC and try to port Slitaz by his own using the book as a base. Not something I would like to try.
