sound problems (VLC, Alsa, etc.)

Running Slitaz 4 / 3.33 GHz proc / 1Gb RAM

1] Alsamixer has the speaker muted on bootup.

2] VLC has a horrible buzzing noise no matter which CD I run: commercial, burned, etc.

I had the same problem trying to run Zork Nemesis in DOSBox. I found out that reducing the PCM volume lowered it, but it also lowered the volume overall. (It might not be a problem solely with SliTaz, since this happened with PeppermintOS.)

3] Is there a SliTaz version of pmidi? I tried installing it, but I ran into dependency errors. Is there a SliTaz way to find out my midi port #? It would be helpful for apps like DOSBox.

Also, Opera has begun exiting abruptly. Using the Linux final (12.12.1707)

Re: sound problems (VLC, Alsa, etc.)

Also - I can only hear sound if my headphones are plugged in.

I removed Opera because I suspected it was a problem with the flash plugin. After I rebooted, I did a terminal install of the flash plugin and tried midori. I haven't had any problems here (no need for flash, of course), but if I go to youtube or facebook, it exits in a fl...

# esd &

[1]- Done(127) [space] esd

@ gibor: I got a 404 error when I tried the link. I tried both midori and opera.

Re: sound problems (VLC, Alsa, etc.)

Great. I downloaded & installed it - Now now my games have NO SOUND - AT ALL. DOSBox message:

"MIXER:Can't open audio: No available audio device, running in nosound mode."

Not even the PC Speaker works anymore. I'm going to reboot & not bother with timidity.
