reinstall Debian with Slitaz using debootstrap

Hi

I have since a few time a big installation in German with Slitaz including lyx and texlive (from get-texlive) and I am not accustomed in use both. Lyx comes only on English (although it is a German creation from the Tübingen-University as well as the initial KDE) and, terrible, I don't understand the English expressions of the menus in Lyx. Over that, Lyx is not happy and will not work with the templates added to the system...

So I did try to reinstall Debian to get the a German system to understand better what I do.

I have no well working CD drive, so I can't install from CD.

But I did find this page: http://wiki.debian.org/Debootstrap as well as the manpage of debootstrap.

My actual installation of Slitaz includes as well «ar» as «wget».

I did download debootstrap_1.0.46.tar.gz from the Debian page and unpack it in /home/tux

After that, I did install following link:

sudo ln -s /home/tux/debootstrap-1.0.46 /usr/share/debootstrap

and did start the installation in my /dev/hda6 mounted as /mnt/sda6 out the subdir in home where I was:

~/debootstrap-1.0.46$ ./debootstrap sid /mnt/sda6 http://ftp2.fr.debian.org/debian/

and get following error message:

E: Couldn't work out current architecture

what is to do?

Re: reinstall Debian with Slitaz using debootstrap

here

http://wiki.debian.org/Debootstrap

the command contains --arch i386 :

[c]debootstrap --arch i386 sid $MY_CHROOT http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/[/c]

maybe you could try

[c]./debootstrap --arch i486 sid /mnt/sda6 http://ftp2.fr.debian.org/debian/[/c]

Hi Oui,

According to http://www.lyx.org/I18n, Lyx is translated in many language, including German. If were you, I would investigate on how to configure Lyx in German.

That would probably contribute helping other Lyx users under Slitaz.

Cheers.

Re: reinstall Debian with Slitaz using debootstrap

Hi Stephane

Yes, you are right, but I have not time actually to begin (perhaps long) investigations as I really don't know what is to check, etc.

(My problem is in Tex:

a/ I will have a head line on each page with a variable text (the group of receiver) and the page number beginning with No. 1 at the 1. page

b/ a bottom line on each page always with an other text, who is the dispatcher (I am in my case the dispatcher)

c/ sometimes 1..4 address fields at the begin of the first page to indicate some precise addresses

d/ a ref line

e/ a short main text (introduction text concerning the photos)

f/ photos 2 side by side if more as 1 and a short text under them (pic 1, pic 2 etc.)

g/ a short text (conclusion and greeting)

h/ a short list of picture with each Pic no., text on content in the rest of the line, would be helpful

I make photos of claims on ways for the town administration and "traffic user associations" and have a great among of pictures to send to actually because of the presence of snow, not available all the yeat, it is better so, to show traffic problems in the countrie and if I don't do it now, this will not make any impression on the responsibles when the snow is gone)

I did do it with OO or LB until yet but it is terrible slow because of the inserting and processing of the photos. Calligra words works a bit better but is yet under development and is not complete. Some functions are terribly missing in Calligra (but we would need Calligra in SliTaz to offer a really complete scope of professional applications: the time is probably coming soon where Calligra will be complete; Calligra is smaller an more modular as OO or LO)!

If I would be able to compose such a template in Texlive I would don't need Lyx at all but only Texlive! I don't find the right functions for a/ and b/ in Lyx to create a template in German as I live in Germany and the administration reads German.

(My form is already well introduced; it is the reason why I don't want to change it! And using head and bottom line, it is usually really often possible to write all the stuff that I have to send as joined to emails as *.pdf, next problem using Texlive, on only 1 page with 1..4 photos! Using usual templates, you often need more than 1 page as address fields for receiver and dispatcher use a lot of room at the head and bottom (::) ! The reduce the photos and reduce their resolution using imagemagick)

Hi ernia

debootstrap is not finish:

1) I have to be root, ok, I understand it, it is easy

2) I did made progress but a new error message appears:

I: Retrieving InRelease

W: Cannot check Release signature; keyring file not available /usr/share/keyrings/debian-archive-keyring.gpg

hm...

Re: reinstall Debian with Slitaz using debootstrap

is it a blocking error?

debian keyrings are used to check debian repository autenticity, i think that if you don't care about checking you should can go on.

if you just want debian you should be able to install from usb key too, netinst should do it:

http://www.debian.org/distrib/

if you already know how to use coockutils i think that you could cook packages in the language you are interested in just putting your locale in /etc/slitaz/cook.conf , if there is a relative po file it will be included in the built package and you should have programs in german.

Re: reinstall Debian with Slitaz using debootstrap

Hi oui,

I has tried LyX some times ago in my Mint Linux, but seems LyX, TeX and friends are too sofisticated to my brains. I produced several documents in LyX, but better I write documents in HTML ☺

I don't know any about debootstrap, but reading the very beginning of this topic, I've just added some LyX related package receipts to repo:

[*]lyx-locales: full set of LyX localization mo-files

[*]lyx-doc: LyX documentation

[*]lyx-examples: LyX examples

It's a common problem while SliTaz pacakge maintainers drop all the stuff that not need to program running. Yes, in this case program is running, but without your locale, without any help (is it for Pro users only?!), and sometime lack of some features ☹

Next as usual:

[*]wait for cooker starts (at 14:00 server time);

[*]wait for cooker cook three lyx-* new packages;

[*]you can download these packages manually using links in cooker pages, or

[*]wait for mirror synced (about a day) and install these packages using TazPkg or TazPanel/Packages (only if you use SliTaz Cooking)

My next plans.

[*]If all goes well I will add these packages to SliTaz Stable 4.0

[*]Upgrade LyX package in SliTaz Cooking to the latest LyX-2.0.5.1

Re: reinstall Debian with Slitaz using debootstrap

Hi Aleksej

Thank you very much for this action!

Wonderful I thank you very much. Pls have also a look on MuDeLa / LilyPond www.lilypond.org/ as it is as well a real standard as TexLive (I don't know if Lyx depends from TexLive! It would be a great help to see in the package description if both are perhaps needed at the same time or not!) in Music notation, and perhaps a WYSYG front end!

A second way would be to add this web application

www.weblily.net/web/

into the menu of SliTaz like Zoho Document reader etc.

Kind regards

Re: reinstall Debian with Slitaz using debootstrap

Independant of my problems with Lyx and TexLive (which led me to search and find a way to reinstall Debian through SliTaz) I find it would be highly interesting for a lot of people to do it with success and that this possibility can become a great attraction to get and try Slitaz as the installation with the net installer from Debian needs a CD (the ISO are not really easy to start directly from hard disk as it was yet possible 2 or 3 years ago. Only a frugal install exactly as for Slitaz 2.0 and you did become able to start the installation) and after that you have to spend a lot of time to process to the installation.

In NuTyx, an other Swiss distribution, the only one remaining in French language as official tongue of the distribution, you can install 10 Gb software through a script and continue to do exactly the same jobs as usual on you PC until the installation is going!

I find it is an important advantage!

Second important thing:

You can install as you want and not as the creator of the installations CD did find it will probably be the best for you!

It would be a great argument to offer other a way to install from Debian in Debian manner exactly the same scope of application as the SliTaz ISO does propose! What a great possibility of comparison for all hesitating between the extremely compact and powerful Slitaz with 44 MB ISO actually (rolling version) and the archetype of all great full Linux Debian. I am certain, that the result of the comparison would be an important argument for SliTaz and the genial performance of his team!

Help Debian user would probably be really profitable for the SliTaz movement!

«Install Debian without CD and test SliTaz at the same time during the installation happens! Have the full control and use of your PC during the installation happens!»

A step bigger would be to give Debian user access to a fully fresh recompiled new Debian version really optimized for her processor (very often i686 :-) !)

Re: reinstall Debian with Slitaz using debootstrap

I did omit to see this link on the above Debian page until yesterday:

http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/apds03.html

Errors continue to appear but I did see an important details on it:

«how to visit and/or install Debian packages in all distributions having "ar"» as Slitaz has!

ok, you have in this case to check and complete all dependencies manually but you are not limited!
