I am looking for a skype alternative and I think I found one, but it s not in the repos - some infos about Jitsi

Does anybody have experience with jitsi? - I will try to convert the deb or arch package

yes, i have it installed and played with it. (I may even have already converted or compiled them for slitaz I think i tried them on slitaz)
I played with jitsi and linphone, i was more looking for a ip softphone than a replacement of Skype, though i know one of them (or both) claim to be skype replacements.
Both have been trouble to use, not handling connections or audio or both properly; one of them was worse than the other. I looked and asked for some hints on the internet, with no success.
They are far, far from being as mature as skype which works (almost) flawlessly, even on unix (though it lags the windows version), specially since the lates 4.x linux version last June. I am having some problems with it, but nowhere close than with jitsi or linphone.
I understand reasons for NOT using skype, but I see no real competition against it at this time.

In fact i just did some additionnal tests with both linphone and jitsi
- i coud solve the linphone problem which turned out to be mostly due to saturation by lowering the microphone level
- i could solve the jitsi problem (additional noise) after downloading the lastest nightly build (instead of the stable version)

This was on peppermint, but i am pretty sure that i already used jitsi on slitaz.
I have no time for additional tests right now, however you should have luck converting and using it
Jitsi was interesting for it is able to record sessions and can be interfaced with TB so that it will dial with a single click in the contact area.

the good thing is, that linphone is packaged - I think, it is the bestter alternative for SliTaz, because its smaller and has less depencies and is available for all platforms - but has no conference calls - so it would be good to have also jisti in the repos in future - because the days of skype are gone..... (at least for me)

I think jitsi is available everywhere also, or i am wrong ?
Why do you want to go away from skype ? it is a very good product and probably the best voip available, and i do no think it will change before a while.... I see only very little drawbacks with it. What am I missing ?

and in general I would use winXP if I would trust Microsoft - it was on my Portege R100, but I do not - the same with skype....

You may even consider using RHUB, WebEx, Gotomeeting, GoMeetNow etc.

The lack of freedom. Skype is proprietary, and also linked with a lot of surveillance, which some people do not like very much.
Tox is one of the more up-and-coming alternatives that some people seem to prefer, however SIP based software has often been considered a good alternative, especially the libre versions.
