Hi all, I did a check of partitions from a liveCD
fsck-pdf / dev/sda9
fsck from util-linux 2.19.1
/ dev/sda8: 42040/161920 files (6.0% non-contiguous), 360549/647680 blocks
I have a 6% fragmentation on SliTaz disk (ext3) which seems to much me versus 0.3% of disk fragmentation on my Debian (ext4).
Any way to make a disk and defrag check?
preferably at the boot of SliTaz

Disk error checking is already done at boot [It has an option in /etc/rcS.conf].
As for defragmentation - ext3 doesnt have this feature (afaik, the only linux FS that are capable of doing it are btrfs, xfs and ext4)

I dont think so, at least now. Looks like we need some modifications to installer (it only suggests using ext3) and kernel (we dont have these FS compiled statically into it).

P.S. I have slitaz installed on btrfs, but I just moved it there from ext3 partition and compuled my custom kernel.

A quick google for ext3 defrag, brings up ShAke (http://vleu.net/shake/) and defrag (http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/defrag/) - maybe give that a go before changing your file system completely... 
My fragmentation is at 3.7% myself, which isn't bad considering the constant changes (in packages, compiles and files) that goes on with it and that I had it on my system the last year or so (by now Windows would have been at 67% fragmentation - no joke). But hey, ext3 was designed to reduce fragmentation and by the looks of it, it's doing a pretty good job at it. Good to know there is something like ShAke though, in case fragmentation gets a little out of hand

I was a little overzealous and made the ShAke package for SliTaz: http://www.trixarian.net/downloads/shake-fs-0.999.tazpkg
If you note an user_xattr error, it's because ShAke requires an addition to /etc/fstab to work effectively, although it can run pretty well without it. More details on it @ http://vleu.net/shake/

Ok, a few notes. I installed both ShAke and defrag. Using both brought my usage up to 5.8% - until I cleared my .thumbnails, Firefox, Flash and gtfp cache, at which point it dropped back to 3.7% - Doing defrag on my home directory reduced this to 2.5% at which it stands now. Note, the biggest issue was caused by cache files.
Secondly, I asked my friend that's running Debian to do a quick check. He has 0.8% for the root file system partition of Debian that he installed 3 months ago. It's minimal and was built from the Debian command line up to use Fluxbox, tint2 and the basic gtk functionality. His home partition however is at 2.8%, both with active usage the last 3 months. That brings the total for the system around 3.2%. Going on your above description you have your home folder with your Slitaz install, while with the initial Debian, it was only the root file system that was counted.
That said, I think your overreacting about it a bit. Even Windows only allows defragging when more than 10% has been fragmented by default and I can almost guarantee it will drop the moment you clear the caches of your applications. Note, I'm at 2.5% now after over a year of active usage. Imagine how bad it would have been for a Windows system by now...

I install and run "shake" with the package you gave me.
That worked perfectly.
Now I did a check of partitions
#fsck -pDf /dev/sda9
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
/dev/sda9: 367874/964768 ficheros (0.5% no contiguos), 3333365/3851776 bloques
It Changed from a 6.0 % to a 0.5% thats really good.
