SliTaz licensing and distribution

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had information on the licensing for SliTaz and being able to distribute custom SliTaz builds. I am looking to create my own bootable image, built off of SliTaz, for my specific use case. For the most part I am going to be stripping out a lot of the packages and applications that I don't need. In the end, I just need this to run my custom utility program that I wrote. Once I have that custom image ready and tested I would need to be able to distribute it.

So any information on the licensing of SliTaz would be great. And what I would need to do.

As a side note: once I found SliTaz I was immediately hooked. It pretty much gave me everything I was looking for: GUI support, easily customizable, fast, and small foot print!

And one last question: any update on when the next official release might be?

I hate to ask for ETAs, but I'm wondering the same as well. I was close to resorting to Tiny Core because of their daily updates but when it comes to customizing, nothing is as easy as SliTaz. I'm hoping v4.0 comes out soon.

Well, SliTaz is licenced under the standard GNU General Public Licence Version 3 as are it's parts. What this means is that you can freely modify, fork away from and redistribute it, for free or at a fee, to suit your needs. The only real requirement is that you mention the original authors within the tools that they've created even if you modify them. Otherwise you're free to do with it as you please.

As for an ETA on 4, there isn't one. The closest you'll get is the rolling release, which is a more current version of cooking. You can find it @ http://mirror.slitaz.org/iso/rolling/

Alternatively, you could try godane's fork of SliTaz, which he describes as Slax built on SliTaz's core. It's way more up to date and updates very frequently.

just a suggestion - yes it is free, but perhaps count 10% for Slitaz - so perhaps Slitaz is able to pay the devs some money and we will have a new version evry year.

So I count for myself a 100 Euros a year for slitaz - I use it just personal, but my 8 years? old Portege R100 is still quicker than any new notebook with vindows or Ubuntu.... and thats a big value.....
