"Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

"Could not load kernel Image"

The message that everybody hates.

I got it after burning a SliTaz 4.0 ISO to a pendrive via UnetBootin from Windows.

I boot from the pendrive, and get the message.

I have both the syslinux.cfg and isolinux.cfg, so no problem there.

Here's a listing of the flash contents:

http://www.mediafire.com/?w2cyj9flynr9elf

And here's the syslinux.cfg file:

http://www.mediafire.com/?67omimzz21oi2bt

Anything would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

Try with slitaz-4.0-core.iso (http://mirror.slitaz.org/iso/4.0/flavors/slitaz-4.0-core.iso)

slitaz-4.0.iso is the 4 in 1 version and don't work with unetbootin.

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

OK, at least I passed the message, but now, after I choose my keyboard setting, I don't get to login, all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left corner, no login or anything. If I try to press something, like enter, space, etc. I see some scratches on the screen, they come and go fast. What is going on?

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

I've exactly the same problem since I've a new Lifebook.

At orange screen, select SliTaz core Live then hit [Tab] and edit the command line : replace autologin with nomodeset, and

add screen=text at the end of the line.

At login, type tux

At prompt, type startx

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

OK, first, I burned the SliTaz core with Unetbootin. During boot, I didn't get the orange screen, I got a blue (DOS-looking) one with 4 options, I think.

1-Default.

2-Slitaz.

3-Web mode (or something)

4-restart.

I highlighted the 2nd option, pressed tab, and edited what you told me.

It was just one line.

I typed 'tux' at login, but when I typed 'startx', I got this:

(without the double quotes)

"/root/.xsession: .: line3: can't open '/root/.config/slitaz/applications.conf'"

It's been two days for me trying to get a Slitaz working, please help.

Either it's this community that really sucks, or SliTaz! You should really work on it, otherwise SliTaz will fall.

Rule of thumb: if the community of any open source thingy sucked, then the product will go down.

I'm showing my frustration, telling you it's urgent, and it's been a day and no answer.

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

SliTaz is designed to use as LiveCD. Why you not use it that way?

What you mean "community sucks"? What you mean "community" at all? Here are active forum members that you can count on one hand fingers. Here are all simple SliTaz users like you, not programmers, not developers or managers. Answering your questions is really not our job. If you so impatient, you should know that we all have our own job and family, and own exrerience.

Personally me not experienced your problems at all with UNetBootin. I not used it at all! Strange? No.

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

UNetBootin does not support SliTaz 4.0 and newer versions.

Try http://mirror.slitaz.org/boot/tazusb.exe and stop using unmaintained third party tools.

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

@VeXe

Aleksej is right, we all have a job and I was travelling for it. I just want to believe you write your post because you were angry.

Long time I didn't use UNetBootin, I always use SliTaz utilities now. I know you can run SliTaz 3.0 so format your stick (ext3) and then Applications > Systems Tools > Create a LiveUSB. Did you only read the documentation?

By the way, you seemed very impatient to obtain help but not so much to answer to Bellard. And stop to imagine that when you stumble SliTaz falls.

@ Pascal Bellard

I tested tazusb.exe this afternoon with different isos. Works fine up to 3.0 but doesn't work with 4.0 and 4.0-core: hangs with message

SYSLINUX 3.80 2009-05-04 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2009 H. Peter Anvin et al

Same as reported here http://forum.slitaz.org/topic/slitaz-4-rc1rc2-dosnt-boot. No update planned for this tool?

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

In the past an xvesa version of Slitaz would login if frugal installed to a fat16,fat32,ntfs filesystem.

No version of Slitaz which runs xorg-server will login a regular user if home is mounted on a M$ filesystem.

Since xvesa ended for good with Slitaz-3.0 all references to fat 16,fat 32, and ntfs should be removed from all Slitaz install tools, guides, and docs where indicated.

Because tazusb.exe runs on windows which requires formating the flash drive to M$ filesystem which breaks Slitaz it should be hidden away with tazwok,mountbox,controlbox,netbox,burnbox...

In addition there should be a large notice in the docs that Slitaz does not work on M$ filesystems and cannot be installed with any tools which run on M$ windows(unetbootin,Universal USB Installer,linux-live,YUMI).

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

Perhaps someone in control could create a usb pendrive image for download from the usual places?

(I burn to cd/rw disc, run it, & create a live pendrive; could not a 'dd'ed copy be made available?)

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

VeXe, you have to download Slitaz-4-0.iso and burn it on a CDROM then boot from the CDROM (CD live) and use Menu System Make a liveUSB.

That's all

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

There's no need to burn a cd, you can isohybrid the iso image then dd it to a usb key.

It boots (if it does :-)  ) exactly like a live cd.

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

Well that makes it so much easier, I didn't realize SliTaz 4 iso was a hybrid, thanks for that.

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

my keyboard must be broken, my previous post was worst than my (ugly) standard.

4.0 isos are not hybrid, you can make them hybrid:

Re: "Could not load kernel Image" after trying to boot a live SliTaz 4.0

SliTaz 4.0 can be converted to a hybrid iso.

The iso images slitaz-4.0-base.iso, slitaz-4.0-core.iso, slitaz-4.0-firefox.iso, slitaz-4.0.iso, slitaz-4.0-justx.iso, slitaz-4.0-preinit.iso, slitaz-4.0-proxy.iso and slitaz-4.0-xorg-light.iso are not hybrid. Solution 1: run isohybrid on the image,

Example:

[c]isohybrid slitaz-4.0.iso[/c]

OK, thanks.

I found a topic on Crunchbang forum about it.
