Raid Array

Has anyone successfully implemented a large raid array using slitaz and mdadm?  I am trying to set up a raid 5 system using 4 3-TB drives for a total active storage of 9 Terrabytes.  I have run several tests with small filesystems, but I am having trouble with the large system.  It seems that I can create the array and start it, but as soon as I try to make a filesystem on it or create partitions, I can no longer access it.  Fdisk says that it can't access and so does gparted. 

I think slitaz is perfect for setting up a raid storage system for a large media files, but I need help.

I have discovered that the problem is with the large sector size (4096 vs. 512) on the disks I am using.
