did you try the slitaz package by using: "$ tazpkg get-install iron-linux" in a terminal?
or have you ever had a look into the packages site: http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/
for slitaz-4.0: http://mirror.slitaz.org/packages/4.0/iron-linux-17.0.1000.0.tazpkg
wich slitaz version do you use?

Thanks mojo for looking into this.
This is what I'm getting:

On other hand Google Chrome is working fine.

Hi tvicol
There should be a menu entry for this - Applications -> Internet -> Iron Web Browser.
I don't think it was designed to run as root.
Offline
If I click on Applications -> Internet -> Iron Web Browser, nothing is happen, so I run the cli to see error messages.
Root or not doesn't matter, I get same "Illegal instruction" error.
Offline
the iron that give you the error is the slitaz one?
the error could be related to some compile optimization (SSE2 or similar) used when building from source.
so maybe you better try removing it and installing the slitaz package, post here the errors you receive and we try to help you.

Managed to convert latest iron version form http://www.srware.net/downloads/iron.deb
and now I''m posting this message from Iron browser.
Very fast browser ! :-)
Offline
ernia,
The erorr is from Slitaz repo browser.
Maybe the version should be upgraded or an get-iron script will be more than welcome.
Thanks !
Offline
please, may you tell me your processor type?
thanks
PS looking at the receipt it just downloads the prebuilt browser and pack it, so it's already a get-iron-linux script

Than why is installing version 17 instead 24 ?
Offline
i repost this here because we posted in the very same moment:
looking at the receipt it just downloads the prebuilt browser and pack it, so it's already a get-iron-linux script
probably at the time when iron linux package was created for stable it required SSE2 optimization and they removed it for people with old hardware.
something like this:
http://my.opera.com/ruario/blog/2012/10/02/illegal-instruction
https://www.srware.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=835&start=20
if you grant that the latest version works with older hardware maybe someone could push a change in the wok receipt that will produce un upgrade to the lst version available.
i cannot test it because i don't have a 4.0 installation.
Offline
we should stop to post together :-)
Offline
Yes, it''s working on this fossil and is faster than Chrome and off course much safer. :-)
Thanks for support !!! Now I'll stick with this browser for a while.

If Iron Browser is based on Chrome then there is a high probability that the newer versions will require newer libraries, which means a Linux Distro with parts older than a year won't be able to run the latest version.
Offline
well, if tvicol says that 24 works in a pentium II while 17 doesn't maybe someone with a 4.0 install could give it a try.
as far as slitaz is targeted to older hardware seems reasonable to me.
tomorrow i'll test it in a virtual machine with a 4.0 livecd, i just make a tazpkg for rolling which would be pretty equal to the one for stable, if it works i think that it could be pushed. would it be ok?
Offline
@ernia
if Pascal Bellard considers the update of iron-browser in stable for security
then its OK
else you'll hear from him.
Offline
well, i've installed it in a livecd and it works with 4.0.
let's see if Pascal want to push it or not.

Hi Guys
I hope that somebody of you is still arround here after 7 years
I want to use an old lap top for accessing google drive.
Could you please tell me how you managed to install Iron Linux browser to SliTaz 4?
I am trying to Install that browser but unfortunatelly unsuccessfully
I am trying on SliTaz 5 but I am willing to downgrade to 4 if this is the solution
I get the same problem as Tvicel: nothing happens after intallation is completed
I get the icon in start menu but when I click on it then nothing happens
Could someone please help me out by revealing step by step how you managed to instal Iron linux browser to SliTaz 4 please? Is it possible to install it into SliTaz 5 also?
Same procedure of installation in SliTaz 5 as in SliTaz 4?
Thank you for any reply in advance
Offline
After installation on SliTaz 5, when iron is started from the command line, it complains that libgtk-3.so.0 is not found.
After installation of gtk+3, iron requires nss version >= 3.26, but nss for SliTaz 5 is version 3.17.4.
I did not succeed in creating a newer version of nss in my private wok because of missing dependencies.
