I would like to remove, say, the game Sudoku from my running SliTaz system.
Unfortunately, if removed with tazpkg, the game files are still there (and it can still be run). Also, after a reboot, the package is again listed as "installed" and the menu entry to it's executable is back as well.
... This is not normal behaviour, is it?
Oh, and while I am at it - which one is supposed to be the "standard" web browser for SliTaz? My version came with Minefield, which has apparently not been supported for quite some time - each and every website tells me to upgrade my Firefox... which I cannot do without a more recent package that tazpkg does not find.
My versions:
slitaz-base 2.6
tazpkg 2.8.1
firefox 3.0.10 (Should be 4.0.x!)

Difficult to answer your question because you are not concrete enough! It depends of the kind of installation you did use: live CD restart, frugal installation or full installation. The best way is probably: you remove the package and rebuild the iso! after new start in liveCD mode the removed package is probably not available any more
Firefox was the preinstalled browser from Slitaz. As Slitaz depending of things like Xorg become more big each new version and as Midori is now a really excellent browser and smaller, some new versions have Midori. But you can install a compatible new version! The problem is to discern what is compatible or not! Some Mozilla versions require new or more libraries. If you don't install all with the new version it is possible or probably, that the new version of Mozilla will crash! Before removing a browser take care don't to remove all the installed plugins!
First of all which version of SliTaz are you using? Going on version numbers, it sounds somewhat like you're using SliTaz 2. I'm guessing this is the case because I'm on SliTaz 3 and all my version numbers are higher than yours.
And no, this isn't a normal behaviour unless your running it just as a LiveCD, at which point any changes made or packages installed will be lost with the next reboot.

I think also you use SliTaz 2.0 with an old Tazpkg bug who was not removing packages. Normally you should be able to make an upgrade and then have packages removed correctly. That said, you should use SliTaz 3.0 or latest Cooking.

Please save your system before upgrading! Slitaz is tricky with some completely classic hardware (all from Intel!) in versions 3. and the new versions (4. or almost 4.?)
It can be, that after the upgrading only console mode works!
Installed on HD, Slitaz 2.0, indeed. Upgrading trashed the system pathes, so I install anew, "cooking" this time, whatever number that may be.
The removed-package-return-after-reboot did, however, happen on a LiveUSB "stable" - again, a rather odd number this one - version, too. These are not, by chance, handled as LiveCD despite having perfectly fine writing capabilities?
... So, if the best way to proceed is rebuilding an iso and reinstalling - this best way is not exactly useable for HD (or USB) installations, is it?
I should rather separate my data and binaries and just keep rebuilding an otherwisely unchanging system?
That is a task... somewhat more complicated than I feel ready for. Unless there is an easy solution?

Ach, oh dread and awe... grub-install deadlocks and no booting shall be without. At least it is not "same old, same old", vexing, alas, it is.
... Google thinks this should not happen. It tells me the world knows nothing about such devious events. What can I do (but try again)?
