Hello
I am a bit confused about Slitaz ... is it alive as the last release was a year ago?
if alive then
is cooking the stable secure and long term supported version and rolling the latest and greatest?
Regards
sagar

Lots of post in the forum, lots of commits in hg
and you should not use anything else than 4.0 - rolling is under development and not ready for a new cooking

Funny how Debian has a two year release cycle. Oh well, just because we don't always release at a set time doesn't mean we won't. To quote most open source projects: It'll be ready when it's ready.

Is SliTaz an independent operating system? or is based on: Debian, Slackware? I am a neophyte, but I am a lover of Debian...

No, SliTaz was made from scratch and isn't based on any other distro out there. It even has it's own packages system and can use debian, fedora and slackware packages if converted properly.
Also note that not all debian based distros are good - Hannah Montana Linux being a prime example...

I know this is not the topic, but, I tried to install slitaz 4 and, for some reason it stopped working. I have dual boot (with Mint on the other partition) but didn't want to format the partition.
When I try to run slitaz, it says "init.d missing". Is there a way to repair without destroying my slitaz from Mint? Any to just reinstall it?
Please

/etc/init.d contains scripts for starting/stopping slitaz and its services:
[c]root@slitaz:/home/tux# ls -la /etc/init.d[/c]

Boot the slitaz live cd you installed from, mount the drive partition containing slitaz install with the init.d not found error.
If [c]/etc/init.d[/c] is missing on the mounted install copy it from the filesystem your currently booted into.
Verify all files in [c]/etc/init.d[/c] are owned by root.root rwx.r-x.r-x

kultex ... you said not use anything less than 4.0
Does it still apply?

sagar,
Please check the "POSTED 4 YEARS AGO" below all the posts :-D
At that time SliTaz 4.0 was quite modern.
SliTaz Cooking was not stable enough.
No one knew about Spectre and Meltdown problems yet.
It was pretty happy days... ;-)

True ...
Am still confused with one aspect ... Will there now on be no stable or LTS for slitaz and slitaz now on will be rolling only?
This clarity will enable me to take a few decisions on deployment as well as create new variants or flavors of slitaz.

I have seen STRETCH, NEXT etc. Forum topics too ... Some ref. To cooking ...

Is the base of slitaz debian without the apt or deb?
Offline
there is rolling - nothing else and it is LTs, because still on Kernel 3.2. which is still supported ....
and SliTaz is totally from scratch
and Next is the next version, which is just under heavy developement - nothing tu use for normal users....
