Raised from the Dead!!! HD Install on Toshiba Satellite 1735

Thank you Slitaz developers.  I became a slave to Bill Gates in 1998 when I bought this Windows Me laptop for $1400 dollars.  The hardware never broke, it was lightly used, but it eventually just became too slow to work.  I have managed to free myself from Bill Gates.  I became enlightened to Linux through a website called lifehacker, and I tried out a couple of live CD's.

Now, I have just finished a successful install of Slitaz 3.0 on my laptop, and it has come back to life!!!!  You guys rock!!! I don't have to throw away a perfectly good machine just because it is old.

Here are my system specs:

Toshiba Satellite 1735 Laptop

Intel Celeron 700mHz processor

10GB IDE Hard Drive

13" DSTN Display

800x600 ATI Radeon Graphics Processor

added memory stick for 192MB RAM

DLink DI-524 Rev C wireless card

I am definitely a Linux newbie, but I learned a lot through trial and error.

I was able to install using the install tool on the Slitaz 3.0 live CD.  I just followed all the defaults.  Once Windows Me was overwritten, I had a little glitch with the GRUB boot up, because The Toshiba welcome screen was still looking for FAT32?  But I repeated the HD install using the Live CD, and I made sure to reformat the whole hard drive(I particularly enjoyed overwriting Windows Me).  Then it worked.

Because of Windows, my $1400 laptop was no longer able to do what my 80$ handheld phone could do -surf the web.  Now, with Slitaz, my laptop does not have to be thrown away.  Thank you!!!!
