trouble installing canon printer mp510

after no success installing a brother printer (DPC165C), i struggle to install a canon mp510 printer.

does anybody knows, how to install this printer for non-experts?  ;-)

the printer is connected with my lifebook by using usb cable. do i need cups to install this printer or do i have any other possibilities?

after installing cups and the related drivers, i try to add my printer in cups using usb cable. but there is no choice for usb. the local printers to choose are scsi or hp printer (holib). all other opportunities are network printers?

after choosing any one, a new window appears and i have to define the connection. it's a pitty. i couldn't find anywhere in the net any solution, how to get the string to the right connection. does anybody know how to proceed? [attachment=24865,1108]

He tried to turn official-driver. Here a situation resolved for canon mpxx

thank you for your hint. now cups was able to find the usb printer. but after adding i got the following message:

Unable to add printer: Bad device-uri "cnij_usb:/dev/usb/lp0"!
