Nv driver is fine in tux but not in root

I have tried looking through the threads first but could not find a solution so...

1) As usr 'tux' I typed 'su' in the the terminal, then typed my root password to get superuser access.

2) I typed 'tazx install xorg 2> /home/tux/xorg.errors.txt' and chose the nv driver

3) I logged out and logged backed in as 'tux' and the screen switched to 1440x900..perfect.

4) I logged out and logged in as 'root' user but I can't get into my root desktop..

--- I get a black screen that says 'failed to execute login command'..then the login screen re-appears.

This is my 2nd attempt, which is why I sent the errors to a text file. I have attached the file.

root login mode now fails every time. Please help.

The fail to execute login errors for user root are related to xauth being unable to write .Xauthority file in /root folder for user root. I have found this to occur for user root if /root or /home for regular users when mounted on a full partition(no room to write), partition is formated in fat32 or ntfs filesystem ,or related to incorrect permissions.The xauth system use's a magic cookie which is inside the .Xauthority file to verify the user logging in's identity.If xauth can't rw .Xauthority login fails and your thrown back to the slim login screen.

Default permissions on /root/.Xauthority are 600 root.root

This is how it should work:

Everytime you logout and then login as root from slim login manager the time stamp on /root/.Xauthority should update to the time of login.If you delete .Xauthority and kill xorg when you restart slim login as root xauth should write a new .Xauthority

I managed to get it working in root before I read this. It took quite a few reinstalls for it to work this time. The only thing I did different was the sequence. First I installed the stable firefox version (frugal on ext3 filesystem), then I logged on as root and updated the package manager list and updated my pacakages. Next I installed firefox 7.0.1, mplayer svn, mplayer codecs, mplayer plugins, ffpeg, and mtpaint. Then, I saved it all (tazx writefs gzip) and rebooted.

Lastly I installed the xorg nv driver. Both tux and root logins work and I'm a happy camper!

Thank you mojo for the info, I think I might fool around with it some more, get it to mess up like before and try your technique of deleting the .Xauthority file.

Your knowledge of Slitaz seems to me to be encyclopedic! Very impressive.
