Hello, I have tried to boot a SliTaz LiveCD and LiveUSB on an old computer, but in both cases it goes to a commandline instead of the desktop after I have selected a language and keyboard layout. Pretty strange, because it does manage to display the select-your-language-and-keyboard-layout GUI. When trying the [c]startx[/c] command it says it has already been started.
I don't know what graphics card is in there.
Lubuntu works fine.
I have this problem too on my MacBook (which has an NVidia)
How to solve?

I have the same problem, but only when booting a custom iso, not the original releases.
Hi, I had the same problem with my new NVIDIA card and solved the problem as follows:
I have changed the driver in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-Device.conf to "vesa".
(I have an empty xorg.conf file!)
Then I could start the GUI with slim -d, but the resolution was limited to 800x600.
Then I added in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-Monitor.conf the following to lines:
HorizSync 28-60
VertRefresh 50-70
After killing the X server and restart with slim -d everything was fine.

Can you do that in a live session too?

Yes, it's working in a live session too.
