parallel scanner

I have an hp 1100A which is a parallel printer+scanner

I could print with no problem, but cannot scan

the scanner does not appear with xsane

With ubuntu, in order to scan, i had to chmod 666 /dev/parport

and the scanner appeared.

Any suggestion on how to use a parrallel scanner ?

Running slitaz 3.0

Thanks

Christophe

Re: parallel scanner

May be there is a much simpler way to do this, but this is what I did with my network attached hp printer/scanner.

1. install cups

2. install hplip

3. run hp-setup to get hplip to configure the printer/scanner.

Once hplip configures the printer/scanner xsane will be able to find it.

Hope this helps.
