Hello!
After taking a short look at the office packages, i saw that the essential programs from the gnome office packages was included (abiword, gnumeric), but i would REALLY like to see EASE (https://live.gnome.org/Ease) on slitaz. It is a lightweight alternative to Open * impress, just more lightweight (like what abiword is to Open writer).
I am not very experienced with repackaging (i have never experimented with it), but ill test the tazpkg convert command when i get to my laptop (with slitaz).
If any slitaz dev sees this, consider adding this to the main repo please!

I downloaded the user friendly and stable FreeOffice ...

Where's the catch? There is none. And if you like SoftMaker FreeOffice as much as tens of thousands of other users do, maybe you'll switch to its commercial version, SoftMaker Office 2012, which provides additional features.

Gnumeric and abiword together, on slitaz at least, is 4 MB or something.
Ease is in the same office "pack" as abiword and gnumeric, so i would assume it wouldnt be much larger than 5MB. I know there are many great office packs out there, but the gnome office pack is super lightweight and fully functional, which was my reason for requesting this.

you cannot count only tazpkg, you have to count also the depencies installed - freeoffice doen not install any depencies
you can try to convert the rpm package to a tazpkg

with "tazpkg convert ease-0.4-18.fc17.i686.rpm" as root

In total Gnumeric and Abiword will still be a smaller download, file formats support and feature wise I would go with FreeOffice. It gives you everything you'll get with OpenOffice for like 1/8 of the download size.

My point is that Abiword and gnumeric together (in tazpkg format) is under 4MB in size. FreeOffice is more than 10 times that. I still havent tried convert, but i still think it would be a nice addon to the tazpkg repository.

Maybe. But FreeOffice can work portable (so you don't have to install it really)
And if you want to work in collaboration with MsOffice users, you can forget Abiword as it never reproduce the same document. i.e : a .docx on 3 pages is dislocated and spread on 4 pages and lots of elements are not even displayed when opened in Abiword. FreeOffice is more compatible.
It's hard to do lobbying among friends but if you do, I suggest you directly impose .odt as default format among friends rather then wasting time re-plot graphics, tables and so
Just a pitty that FreeOffice doesn't comes with gtk. It looks so ugly by now.
