GRUB GUI

Can anybody tell me if it is possible to change the grub background and use a custom picture or something like this?

And if it is possible please tell me how.

Thank you!

Re: GRUB GUI

Why don't you use any of hundreds of tutorials which can be found with duckduckgo or other google? You would make it much faster than waiting here for next howto.

It is possible, but I can't explain - don't know how to do it.

Re: GRUB GUI

The splash image is specified in /boot/grub/menu.lst file which can be opened using a text editor such as leafpad.

As you will notice the default splash image is splash.xpm.gz which is a compressed xpm image file.

I have never tried it but try opening your image in Gimp and save it as a xpm file and then compress it and place it in /boot/grub and modify menu.lst accordingly. No doubt there will be size limitations.Just a suggestion.

Re: GRUB GUI

I actually tried google and didnt find anything relative, this is why I asked here. I thought sliTaz is special, and not everything from other linux distro's works.

Re: GRUB GUI

@eeschimosu, note that the default image splash.xpm.gz is only 5K in size so obviously there will be restrictions on the size of the image you are thinking of using.

Re: GRUB GUI

I don't think that is the background image. I think is something regarding the system. But i don't know, can anybody confirm that splash.xpm.gz is the background image?

Re: GRUB GUI

If user choose to install grub4dos-linux legacy boot loader when using tazinst to do a full install this is boot menu background splashimage=/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz

splash.png

The boot menu background splash image must be 640x480 resolution, maximum 14 colors, xpm format.

Compressing the xpm with gzip to decrease it's size is not required.
