Live CD is stuck at "Searching sound cards ... 5%"

Exactly what the title says... Trying to boot to a SliTaz Live session results in a hangup at "Searching sound cards ... 5%". No keyboard input is accepted unless the monitor turns off automatically and then turns on again. Ctrl-Alt-Delete does not reboot the computer or yield visible evidence of being pressed in any case.

There was a similar issue in the 4.0 ("cooking") version, however, I could get past it with the [c]sound=noconf[/c] kernel option, and that's not working here. Does anyone know of a workaround or fix for this? I searched the forums but did not find a solution. I have an Intel sound card, and the 4.0 CD works just fine.

Which version of SliTaz?

Try with [c]sound=no[/c]

This is with SliTaz Rolling. I tried adding [c]sound=no[/c] to the kernel options, but still no luck.

I really don't understand why it doesn't work for you.

I've burned a CD with the last rolling.iso and done this:

[*]selected English US and hit [Tab] key to adapt keyboard (kmap=fr-latin1 for me); hit [Enter]

[*]wait a few seconds when screen displayed [c]boot:[/c] then selected at orange screen SliTaz core Live and hit [Tab] key

[*]edited the "append linux" line as follow: suppressed [c]autologin[/c] (or black screen) and added [c]sound=noconf[/c]; hit [Enter]

[*]system booted in console mode; login as root and started SLiM:

[c]slitaz login: root
Password: root
root@slitaz:~# slim[/c]

Did you proceed the same?

Re: Live CD is stuck at "Searching sound cards ... 5%"

Thank you for those instructions. I wasn't able to get to a [c]login[/c] prompt, but it looks like the hangup is happening at [c]Configuring Xorg[/c]. This is a huge clue, because I have a nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP graphics interface that doesn't work well with Linux. I am not sure how to proceed...

Re: Live CD is stuck at "Searching sound cards ... 5%"

Oh, sorry !

I forgot to mention you'll have probably to add [c]screen=text[/c] after [c]sound=noconf[/c]...

If it doesn't work, try to boot the justx Live entry.

If it doesn't work better, try the base Live entry. In this way you should be able to get the login prompt; then login as root and type [c]tazx[/c].

Select install or reconfigure x, and then select the nv driver in the list. After tazx will have install X and the drivers you should know if your nVidia card can work with SliTaz.
