booting with /usr on disk

Seemed to me it was possible to boot (fugal) in ram while keeping /usr on disk... I am wrong, or missing something obvious here ?

Actually I wanted to boot frugal with an uncompressed rootfs.gz (to speed up boot) but Slitaz complains at boot time that rootfs is too big, or that it is lacking memory, can't remember for sure the message, (which is strange because i have 4GB, would have thought this is plenty even with a 600Mb uncompressed rootfs.gz...)

Any suggestion ?
