Any way to make changes permanent?

TinySlitaz is almost exactly what I need.

Is there a way to make the file system not embedded but just normally installed on the hard disk?

The last step of http://tiny.slitaz.org/ show a page with 'Files for bootloaders'

Download Kernel and rootfs, go into the target partition and extract rootfs.gz :

# cd /mnt/target

# unlzma < /path/to/rootfs.gz | cpio -idmu
