Hi,
I propose a survey on the creation of a package repository for SliTaz stable version (like the backports repository of Debian).
It would include the most popular software such as Firefox, Midori, VLC, etc. ..
So I ask you your opinion on this proposal and what software you would have in this repository.

Sounds like a good idea, especially as development seems to have stalled, (better safe than sorry).
Regarding what to put into it; I think all the programs that are on the live bootable DVD might be good.
what to put in
Primarily (version) updates for programs with security flaws.(are there any?)
then gathering together the goodies which are scattered in the forum
eg.mojo's wifi driver,Trixar_za's legacy flash etc.
and 3rd some improvements
locale for sylpheed
lbreakout2:
the cli-output said that lbreakout2 was compiled without sound and music.
a Game without sound = no fun.

For sure ! Time to have a complete OS which works out of the box ! A kind of "Slitaz XP/Mint"
I propose a vote to decide which program for each task.
InternetBrowser : Firefox (stable,gtk, and don't spy you ; so no midori,opera,chrome)
Player : Gnome-Mplayer or Totem (gtk) (so don't need an audio player) + codecs
FileBrowser : Pcmanfm (don't like spacefm)
VideoEditing : OpenShot (= the linux's movie maker)
ImageEditing : Gimp (or something more simple ?)
Extracter : Xarchiver (or at least something fully able to deal with zip and ..rar!)
Viewer : ePDFView is not very optimal
Office : hard debate ... but i think the solution should be "portable"
and all the hardware drivers,firmwares available in the repositories into the iso for a first boot wizard-configurator
Let me weigh in about the above:
Firefox: Not lightweight at all, bad support from authors and generally a memory hog. Not that Chrome and Opera are any lighter (in fact Chrome is WORSE than Firefox at the moment).
Gnome-Mplayer: Maybe since it only needs Mplayer and codecs to work. Not Totem unless you actively want to drag half of GNOME with it.
PCMANFM: Legacy doesn't work without HAL and the current version is heavier (dependency and resources wise) than XFCE4. We might as well just use XFCE4 instead. Spacefm is pretty much dead too.
Xarchiver: While it's my favorite archive extraction program, it hasn't been updated in years, so it lacks proper support for 7zip and the new xz formats.

Hi bro...I love your posts....still advertising your "first boot wizard"..;-)
about your "vote to decide which program"
InternetBrowser, ImageEditing, Office, Player, VideoEditing, none by default but a repo where I can choose the one I like
(eg. I use Midori, so i dont want FF build in by default)
Maybe I'm the only one but I like to have a small, basic system
and then I decide what to add to it.
You can find a "full featured oob distro" on every corner; but not a small one.

sixofeight your idea on a screen to choose which programs installed is not meaningless.
There is already a version more or less light (SliTaz gtkonly), which contains only the bare necessities, or at least no closer.
I'll start by grouping optimizations and addons that exist on the forum (mojo's wifi driver, Trixar_za's legacy flash etc..)

hihi , yes I still do. By now, I know 5 newbies who give up after a black screen. I don't like to feel boring to linux newcomers when I say : " yes but .. bla bla bla .." 
. A kind of Slitaz "Mint" or "XP" flavor (with stable packages) could be a nice idea as long as it might be possible to strip off all the unecessary during the wizard-configurator session.

I dream to have the choice to decide myself which program I want for each task that I need to complete.
My dream:
I start SliTaz from an USB key (or a frugal install), a minimalist iso with only Xorg, Gtk, Openbox, LXDE. No apps.
Then I load Tazweb, to display an App Center, a page listing software categories like Internet, Graphics, Office.. you know this stuff. I select which apps I want to install, push Enter and my selection of packages is installed from the internet, or even better from a cache located on the USB Key.
Almost how I use SliTaz these days, except I do not have an App Center, I do all this stuff by hand in CLI mode.

Desktop Enviroment: XFCE4 for GTK2 or RazorQt for Qt4
Lightweight Office: Abiword, Gnumeric, Scribus, Claws-mail, GNUCash or Homebank, evince or mupdf
Proper Office Suit: OpenOffice or Softmaker Office
Multimedia: Gnome-Mplayer (for video) and DeadBeef (for music and because I love it)
Code editing: Geany - no question 
Lightweight Web browsers: Qupzilla, SlimBoat, QtWeb or Midori - in that order
Heavier Web browsers: Firefox, Chrome or Opera - in order of preference
Chat clients: Pidgin; Hexchat or Xchat - maybe KvIRC
Image Editing: mtpaint (lightweight), GIMP (heavier) and/or Inkscape (heavier vector graphics)
Video Editing: Openshot? Can't think of anything else we can use here...

Creo que lo que se ha apuntado está bien. Yo simplemente apuntaría un lector de archivos midis eficiente Msescore o Timidity lo son, pero en mi ordenador, estando instalados no se abren. Con otros linux se abren.

Backports is a good idea.
It can include every packages that can be compiled with the stable SliTaz toolchain.
Except the toolchain.
So we can have packages uptodate with security fix and missing fonctionnalities.
