Hi.
Now I am completely devastated!
I'm working on creating two digital picture-frames from two old laptops that are almost identical in hardware.
I first installed slitaz 4.0 on a USB-stick on one of the laptops about a month ago and been working day and night for the last 2 weeks customizing slitaz for the purpose.
As this was almost my first experience with linux i struggled some with creating my scripts and settings. But after a lot of mistakes and googleing i have learned much.
When i finally was pleased with how everything was working i decided to just check the usb-stick in the second laptop.
When it booted and didn't do as i should, I made a new install from my live usb to a second stick and copied all scripts and changes i made to get it to work with the slightly different hardware( what i can see, another network adapter and some extra RAM). But that didn't work.
And today when i tried the first laptop again I get the same problems there. But i was working yesterday and I haven't changed anything. Even tried a older backup of the entire usb-stick that i made a few days ago.
The applications i use have now mysterious problems with are:
*Feh - suddenly says; no imlib2 loader for that file format, on all files, including the same jpegs i opened before.
*Remote launcher server. I start it with java -jar command and now it never shows up. when i check with top command it is running and taking up 100% of cpu and never goes down.
*Teamviewer 8.0. i start it with teamviewer --daemon start and teamviwer command and now it never shows up. when i check with top command it is running and taking up 100% of cpu and never goes down.
Also tried my live usb and installing Feh in a running sessin and i get the same error on both laptops.
Sorry for the long post and maybe some bad English.
Please help me! don't want my 2 weeks of work to be a waste.

Would it be possible to generate an usb image file of your SliTaz 4 using something like http://www.alexpage.de/usb-image-tool/ ? It would help if I can see what changes you've made and what bugs in SliTaz 4 might be causing it.

I already have two images in .bin format. One from when everything was working that i made for backup pupose and one from yesterday when i noticed the problems also on laptop 1.
I´m uploding the files to dropbox now and will post the link as soon as its done.
I will also create three more images with the software you linked:
*Laptop 1, where the usb-stick is currently loaded with the older backup version that noticed the problems with yesterday.
*laptop 2.
*Live USB that i have been using for all installs and testing.

How big is it? Anything beyond 200Mb as a LiveUSB might be a little big if it uses SliTaz's default image compression (since it would need about 512Mb RAM to run).
The bin images should be fine. You could probably use ecm to alter the images to make them easier to compress. That will save on bandwidth.

Each image is now 4GB as the usb sticks im using are 4GB. But i will try to compress them using Gemc.

I didn't manage to get ecm to work but i have at least compressed it a bit with IZarc.
So it should speed it up a little bit.
The first .bin file is uploaded now.

I have had similar mysterious events.
It seems that usb sticks (for whatever reason)
rather quickly loose whatever it takes to
boot many distros properly. It's not nearly
enough use to wear out the memory, BUT !
something degrades. (Or perhaps the Linux
itself someways degrades)
If that's your case, the only thing to do
is start with new usb and/or disc and put
all on HD soon as possible.

Thanks. I will definitely try with another new usb stick to see if it helps.
But if that is the reason, it is really strange that all three of my current usb sticks failed at almost the same time...

I have now tried with another rarely used usb stick loaded with the image file I created when everything was working and I get the same errors.
If i can find a brand new usb stick i will also try with it.
But it feels like it is something else that has happened.
Of the three usb sticks I used from the beginning, 2 where brand new and 1 rarely used when i started this project.

I made a live Cd instead if a USB and have now tried it alot of ways.
On 4 different laptops I have directly after boot installed feh and copied a .jpg file to the /home/tux/ folder and launched feh from console without doing anything else.
This worked on 1 old and 1 new laptop I have for work, but when i try this on the two laptops i would like to run slitaz on i get the error: "no imlib2 loader for that file format"
I also tried once more with a fresh install to usb from the live cd on what i have previously called Laptop 1. and I get all the same errors as before.
The test with the cd draws me to conclude the there is some sort of hardware problem causing this as I get the errors on 2/2 laptops. The problem must have arisen in the first laptop when i assembled it to prepare it for the picture frame, as everything was working before that.
So now I wonder, Does anyone know what kind of hardware problem can cause just a few selected applications to fail when everything else works?

According to this link, it looks like it is more a conversion problem rather than an hardware one. Any convert generated bmp have the problem. :-/

And i also don't understand which workaround you refer to?
I haven't converted any files.
I am not trying with .bmp only .jpg (directly from my camera and windows example pics)
It worked for about 2 weeks with feh and the same .jpg files on one of the laptops and then suddenly stopped.
feh is not the only application I'm having problems with. It is just the one that is easiest to test with as it is available through tazpkg.
(I also made a quick try with puppy linux and feh. Couldn't get feh to launch. But as I don't know how to use puppy properly (it was my first try) im not sure this test proved anything regarding to the hardware/software related issus.)
So my question remains; Does anyone know any kind of hardware problem that can cause just a few selected applications to fail when everything else works?
Please help me. I appreciate any thoughts and ideas that comes up.
