Best way to get new apps into my (old) distro

Hey guys,

I know the current version of Slitaz is now way old, but it is still bad ass. And I wish to continue using it.

However, the firefox in the repository is way way old! and both firefox and midori seem to be buggy as hell. (faaar too buggy for me to continue to use).

What's the best way to get new apps into my system?

Well, you can get firefox 4 off my site at http://trixarian.net/SliTaz and then go to Help---> About and then click the Check for Update button to update it to the latest stable version.

what about updating midori to 0.5.(?) ?

i updated midori to 0.4.8 and since that time it went much more stable. but it's still not possible to access for example facebook properly, and the buttons after opening the download window are still disappeared.

the updated firefox (27...) above needs around the double of ram than midori or tazweb.

It's the age of webkit and a missing dependency in Midori that makes it hard to upgrade in a stable way. It should work better on cooking, but because of the missing dependency, it still won't be able to access secure sites.

Thanks for your responses, but what about my question in general. I.e. for other/future apps... To bypass 'tazpkg get-install' ... Converting from the ubuntu repos? (I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that this is possible?)

And nice one Trixar, but why is it on your website and not in the slitaz repos? Also, why is there a repository for (nearly) every distribution?  Aren't we re-inventing the wheel? Why haven't we developed an open standard for package management?
