A good converter might be ffmpeg, but be warned that SliTaz's copy isn't compiled with all the available options enabled. Here's a basic guide on how to use it: http://segfault.in/2010/10/ffmpeg-tricks-you-should-know-about/
As for getting all the codecs, you can get most of them by installing the gstreamer packages, namely gstreamer, gst-plugins-base, gst-ffmpeg, gst-plugins-good, gst-plugins-bad and gst-plugins-ugly.

thanks trixar_za, but i've written a shell script for update it and install a few codecs, then i've converted a debian package with winff and the problem was solved ;)

VLC should be able to do it too. and mencoder which I think comes with mplayer, not to sure.

in the repos is not included yet a mencoder frontend and vlc isn't able to encode files with this version of ffmpeg...

I don't think mencoder has a frontend. Anyway, the ffmpeg in SliTaz sucks. I tried updating my version with the options that I wanted by manually compiling it and I failed terribly :/
I wanted to enable the x11grab functionality, which the majority of the Linux tutorial people use to create their YouTube videos. I thought it would be a cool thing to try.

yes i'd like to... i've created a shell script to enable some functionalities but it would be better to create a tazpkg with codecs pre-enabled u.u

may be you can tray kino.
it's a video editor, but it can obviously also encode/decode video.
it use mencoder that is in the slitaz repos.as for avidemux, i don't tray it, so it's just a suggestion.
you could also use mencoder from command line :)Posted 13 years ago # -
