to start with i am a linux noob, though i have successfully used aircrack on my desktop which uses an atheros.
However, on my laptop, an HP ze2000z, which uses a mini-pci broadcom, i seem to be unable to install the b43 firmware. i am aware that the firmware must be installed before the drivers can be loaded, i can connect to the internet via the ethernet, but all seems to be going well until i see a few "failed" messages during the installation. I am wondering if my problem was because its a mini pci card, or if the installation fails because im running a livecd and the cutter cannot install to the memory.
I BELIEVE i wouldnt have this problem if i were loading off a usb stick, however this laptop {to my knowledge} cannot boot from usb.
i have also attempted to create a new live cd WITH the drivers by running my slitaz iso as a vm, but my noobiness has caused me a few trip-ups with that as well.
btw my card is the 4318 version which ive seen is supported by b43.
is there a distro that comes with the b43 included? ive read backtrack has it, however their live "CD" is too large for an actual cd, lol, and my attempts to change that to a bootable dvd have failed, and besides backtrack despite all its features seems to be a resource hog compared to slitaz, especialy considering the outdated tech i own.
i am using the aircrack-ng slitaz livecd i got from the link through the aircrack website
If i could get a "for idiots" rundown of how to install with this particular hardware it would be greatly appreciated, im sorry to have to ask like this, just ive seen dumber questions than mine on forums which could have been solved by searching and reading, just ive searched/read till my eyes ache and have gotten no further to finding what noob mistake ive been making.
again sorry and thank you for your time
