After solving most my problems, i am faced with another one. After uninstalling mplayer, i need something to play videos on the net. Does someone know what packages to install for better movie playback in the browser (maybe even youtube?).
I'm thinking about gstreamer ffmpeg (gst-ffmpeg). any other suggestions?
what about xine?

tazpkg get-install flash-plugin (I mentioned it in my prior post too :P) for flash so youtube works.
If it doesn't start installing automatically, then su to root and type get-flash-plugin to start the download and install process. Not really sure which video package will work best with a browser, but you can probably use VLC integrated into your browser to do it.
As for the gst codecs, you have to install gst-plugins-base, gst-ffmpeg, gst-plugins-good, gst-plugins-bad and gst-plugin-ugly to get them all.

Thx Trixar_za.
i've installed the plugins. Unfirtunatelly, youtube videos even on 240p are not fluent. I think it's the via 733 mhz cpu:)
Now everything works on slitaz!
One more thing. How do i use V LC integrated in my browser ?(midori)Posted 13 years ago # -
Yeah, only 240p sometimes run smooth for me. I'm thinking of trying to use the flash alternative package and seeing if that works better (and it's open source, so no downloader package like get-flash-plugin). Tried getting VLC integration working, but it's not doing what I want. Seems you have to enable it at compile, so the only way to get it is to recompile VLC myself :(
The best I could find is to install a plugin with firefox that allows me to use an external player for embedded videos (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/mediaplayerconnectivity/), but it only work with older versions of Firefox... There is a guide by one of the users on how to make it work with Firefox 4 and 5 though.

Another option, as more and more people can't use flash on their mobile/tablet/i* (http://www.geekosystem.com/adobe-releases-edge/), is to enable support for HTML5:

I tried Trixar_za's suggestion (tazpkg get-install flash-plugin) and it works to some extent. The youtube playback is not satisfactory - sound is OK, but video is very jerky, essentially unwatchable.
Target system: Biostar M6VLR (integrated 8 Mb graphics), 256 Mb, Pentium III 1 Ghz. System only takes PCI cards, would like to avoid a fancy PCI graphic card, they can cost more than the system is worth. Then you have to gamble on driver availability.
Is this the best I can expect? Windows XP does better with the same setup; I want to avoid that, but it is a benchmark. Is this unrealistic?

i read in the "mint software users comments" that vlc plugin more slower than vlc itself
and his score -8 !!Posted 13 years ago # -
look, I solved the problem of Flash Player (watching videos on youtube, Midori and Firefox 5.0) as follows:
1) download the flash player from the Adobe Web site:
install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
2) unzip it, and we have the libflashplayer.so file
3) as administrator (su-sudo-root) go to this address
4) / usr / lib / mozilla / plugins and there paste libflashplayer.so
5) Important: If the folder does not exist-plugins-you create it, and there paste the libflasplayer.so
6) Restart Midori and ready to function
7) Important: If you did the work as Root (Administrator)
must give permissions to the plugin folder, otherwise user
normal, non-starter. permits are as follows:
yes read - yes write - yes execution
yes read - not writing - yes execution
yes read - not writing - yes execution
I hope to serve you .- HealthPosted 13 years ago # -
rerivero - what kind of a system do you have? And how is the youtube performance? The requirements Adobe specifies for flash player ten are rather steep. If you have that much hardware, you might be better off with a more cushy distro like Ubuntu. The reason I am interested in SliTaz is the possibility of rescuing old machines from the dump - those not able to run Ubuntu well. The target system I picked would be at the high end - more and I would use Ubuntu (so far not Lubuntu, have had terrible luck with that one).
Maybe the stated Adobe requirements are overkill. BTW I am just using the default browser (Midori) on my SliTaz target machine.

hi diacad - my hardward is little, and you tube performance is very good. Hardware Description:
Biostar K8M800 motherboard, AMD Sempron 1.6 Ghz, 250 MB RAM, 2048 MB Swapp partition. You can see that my system is little, however performance is very good youtube.
With the solution you provide in the forum, Went well with Midori (has some bugs), Mozilla/5.0 (Shiretoko), and Opera. Is also good option Tazweb (SliTaz developing browser, which is light and youtube videos work without problems and without having to make any arrangement)
I understand what Ubuntu, but I like these distros and developing lighter, more probe Zenwalk, Vector Linux, Slax, Puppy Linux etc. .. but my favorite is now SliTaz (very good) .-
encourage you and testing should work well. :)Posted 13 years ago # -
Sorry.. rectification 256 RAM, 1024 MB Swapp partition.-
