Hi! i have installed cooking on my Toshiba portege 2000 laptop, works great! However, I have one HW problem with my wifi chipset. It's an orinoco_cs, and i have to load the module every time i boot. Is there a way to have it connect automatically? does anyone know what firmware to use to make the WPA work? It works fine with open connections, but i would like to put wpa on my router. Thanks!

Add to /etc/rcS.conf LOAD_MODULES= orinoco-cs
Hermes I chipset is the only one that supports WPA with firmware.Posted 13 years ago # -
Thanks for your reply. I tried adding LOAD_MODULES= orinoco_cs to my rcS.conf, but I get a strange behaviour.
This is what happens:
before I added LOAD_MODULES= orinoco_cs to my rcS.conf, i had to manually go to my wireless connection manager, click on the driver tab, then load the orinoco_cs driver. (I chose the ipw2100-firmware, the first on the list). I click on install, (on the firmware selection line), then on load (on the driver selection line). At this point, the wireless manager hangs. I have to manually kill the process (takes a while) then I reopen the wireless connection manager, refresh the network list, and all the networks appear!. I choose my open network, click on it, and am perfectly connected. I have to do this pocess every time. i switch on my pc.
Then I added LOAD_MODULES= orinoco_cs to my rcS.conf, but still the default driver was ar9170usb. however, when i installed the oricnoco_cs driver, and loaded it, the network manager would not hang, but clicking on the network driver refresh tab would not show any networks.
So now I'm back to the settings before editing the rcS.conf file.
Any ideas?
thank you!
